The Priory of the Orange Tree author Samantha Shannon will be answering questions on March 21 at 7pm GMT/ 3 pm EST in this thread only. You can start saying hello and dropping in your questions now, and she'll respond on the 21st!

The whole book is fair game for questions (Priory publishes worldwide on February 26th), but please place any explicitly spoilery questions behind spoiler tags.

The Priory of the Orange Tree is my new favourite book, I love it so much! My question is: Was it it implied that there will be something between Loth and (view spoiler)
I wasn't sure if it actually was implied or if that was me reading too much into it.

Before I ask my question, I just wanted to say that I love your writing and will definitely binge the first three Bone Season books now that I finished PRIORY! And to thank you for noticing & engaging with your fans on social media! You already noticed me twice, so it'd be great if you could answer this: (view spoiler)
Also, I would love it if you toured the US and came to Texas!
Much love, a huge fan,

Hi Samantha,

What's your thought processes when you begin writing a complex fantasy book? Also do you reckon a lot of research needs to be done in order to get a complex fantasy right? Or does it entirely depend on the story?

Thanks,
Cora.

Hii
loved the book but i have one small question. how come the mulberry and the hawthorn tree die after one person eats from its fruit, but the orange tree doesn't?
thanks
lena

When you first stated writing Priory, were you planning on using the point of view of four different narrators? Or did this come out in the process as you went along? I thought it was a good stylistic choice given the different stories/countries that unify as the plot progresses.

Hi Samantha! Thank you so much for writing Priory! It was so good that I stayed up way past my normal bedtime just to finish it (hence I was late for work but that's OK:) Could you tell me if Tane's OK in that last chapter? I just want her to live a happy life after all that she's been through. Also do you think a sequel involving the main characters in Priory is possible at this point?
Thank you!

Hello,
I really enjoyed the book! I was wondering what the dragons' crowns looked like? How big were they compared to their heads, are they like the huge blobby bits at the top of jellyfish?
Thank you!

Just finished reading, and wow! That was everything. I can see how it took so many years to write and edit it. I have questions, but not sure if they are discussion/theory questions.

Spoiler questions below:(view spoiler)

Thank you so much! It was such a pleasure reading :)

Hello!
First of all, I would like to say that this is an exceptional book that everyone should read! Reading the Priory of the Orange Tree it is obvious that you have worked hard doing a lot of historical research in order to create a multi-layered and thoroughly developed world. What was the spark, the first stimulus that inspired you and motivated you to embark on such a long journey and how does that initial thought evolve into such a multi-dimensional story?
Thank you,
Eri

I love the book and I'm dreading finishing it because I don't want it to be over.

I know you did a lot of research for Priory, but did you also research the food? I'm seeing so many different kinds of foods that I've never even heard about so it's made me curious.

Also, if Priory gets adapted for TV/movies, who would you want to play the main characters (Ead, Tane, Loth, etc)?

Hi Samantha!
I have just finished reading Priory and it felt so satisfying! Really loved it!
Will you possibly write a sequel to it?

Hi Samantha! First of all, I love your books! Can you give me some advice on how to research for my epic fantasy series? Also, could you provide some advice on worldbuilding (especially on religion) and nailing a character's voice?

Hi Samantha,

I love your work and have just started Priory. My question is: when you write an epic like Priory, where do you begin? Does the world come first, a character or a basic plot outline?

Thanks!

Adam
