SOLVED. YA Realistic Fiction about young girl with braids being molested. [s]

I read this book around 2012, it was published in America and is written in English. The book was probably published in the late 90s-early 2000s. It was a realistic fiction about a young girl, maybe in middle school, who by the end of the story, you find out was molested. I believe it was her mother's boyfriend who assaulted her. I think the girl had a younger brother. I also remember there was a side plot about a boy in the girl's class getting kidnapped, and by the end of the story, the boy was found but his eye was shot out? The cover of the book was a girl sitting on a swing set. I also remember the girl liking to put her braids over her eyes as a way to escape from the world. Hope someone can help!
