What bad luck with your current reads , Leena ! Hope you find a good book soon .

yes, Perfume is a historical mystery with probably a moralistic question somewhere - still to find it.but I shall persevere.

Before the Coffee Gets Cold, has so much hype. I hear it is a hit or miss type. Looking forward to your review. :)

We used to have those challenges but these days 99% of the group is dormant.

What is this TS and Yahtzee challenge? Do we need to be a fan of TS or Ye for being a part of these challenges?
How was Lukov with Love? I liked it when I read it but I was in my MZ phase back then.

Yes!!
Leena, please explain further on yahtzee?
I remember you once said it's similar to roll-a-dice challenge.
Here's one idea:-
Something to do with birthdays? We enter the dob. (If folks want to keep their birthdays private they can choose any date, fav authors dob or fav book publication date).
It covers all the digits in the dob and the sum of it,
each digit can specify (for example) "read a book with poc as mc" or "book cover with not more than 2 colors" or
it says the number of books you have to read or
(alphabets in) title of the book has to be either less than or more than that digit.
I'm just thinking out loud.

E.g her song Cardigan was inspired for the prompt - read a book with clothes on cover.
YAHTZEE too is from the sane group.
Roll the dice and use the combination to follow the prompt given. This is a 13 month challenge and e roll the dicepnce during the time specified.
Last month I had 4 1s and so my prowls to either rea dthe first of a series or a book with 1 word title.hence Perfume

Same with pick it for me. Many partners don't show up. It's not possible they forget. And in India the data available for a really small fee is insane. It comes down to responsibility and caring.
There are some groups that clearly ask you not to vote if you will not participate.

I'm guilty with this month's botm (the previous months, I usually commented in first week itself). I have been stuck in other books, will pick it up this week. :)
I'm sort of new, but Secret Santa 2021, there was good participation right. Maybe many have just gotten more busy with their personal life these few months.

I understand life happens but sometime you would be able to take time out, right?
Snake and Ladders challenge was a great concept maybe should have been repeated. Some challenges are recurring, you just start playing

Agreed, Leena. :)

Thanks. That sounds cool (and big commitment) but I have only seen such competitions for kids or students. Will surf online where adults are allowed.

Last yr I did a weekend readathon for the pride week and we had to only read LGBTQ ooks and we were divided into 4 groups using spades , aces clubs and diamonds and prompts were given depending on what card you drew. It was fun.

Active participation is what makes any challenge successful. With only few of active us here it is sometimes hard to recruit new people for challenges. We used to put up challenges at the beginning of every year, people would sign up but soon the excitement would fizzle out and it kind of hurt. But I don't blame anyone as sometimes people fall in reading slumps, sometimes something else grabs their attentions, and sometimes just life happens and they just want to stay away from SNS... I know I was MIA most of 19-20 here. And then I am a moody reader, I read nonstop at times and then sometimes only few books a month.
There was also a time when we discontinued BOTM here for the low participation.
About team challenges, sometimes it feel burdensome when few members are giving their all but still not able to achieve success because others on team are not cooperative and it just feel so bad. And that's a personal experience as I have been part of these team challenges few times.

If few of you here are interested I can create a decade challenge here.
here is the rough draft - I will create 10 categories and we will cover these categories for 2010-2020. Like fantasy is one of the category when someone read a fantasy that is published in that decade we are crossing out that category and that year and so on...
Once all categories and years are crossed out we can move on 2000-10.

Completely understand, Em. It's same with me, sometimes I gobble up series altogether and sometimes just 1-2 books take a lot of time.
And true, team challenges are fun when lot of us are active.

It's a great idea!
Do you want to put up a poll maybe? Just to see how many would be interested in committing to the challenge. Because as mod, you're putting effort but it's going to go well (& it's going to be worth the effort) only if enough members are interested.
I don't think poll would be of much help. We can start with few of us here, and I think people are regulars will soon come to know of it. No use of putting up on a poll for 16k people when only less than 500 are active. And out of those 500 only fraction would be interested...
but if many of you wants me to put a poll, I will do so...

Makes sense. Sure. Then it's not necessary.

I'm in. I have Network Effect as my apr PIFM which covers 2020 and oh? where's sci-fi? Want to include in fantasy itself or another category? If another category we can assume 2021 too (since we'll be going backwards anyway).
For group/team challenges, we better have more than 2 groups atleast. :D
And do we get points for striking off each cat? That way at the end of every quarter or year( or anything lol), the group that completes with highest score wins?
