Pillars of Earth reads like a thriller, never a dull moment.

I have yet to get to 'The Idiot'. See that's the thing, Crime and Punishment, I did read P&V translation but I felt it was dry at places.
I have heard the same thing, Dostoevsky - go for P & V.
And before going to War and Peace when I searched about translations I came to know that P & V, one of them is fluent in Russian and the other in English, so at times the translation reads word to word and loses some of it's elegance.
So when it comes to Tolstoy, it was either Garnett or Maude or Briggs. Because when describing characters in War and Peace, P & V had gone wrong at multiple instances (as per reviews). Wrong as in not a bad translation but more like not articulate enough which dampens the effect in emotional scenes.
I read 1-2 pages in sample - for me, it had to be Maude or Briggs; I just picked Briggs ( it was Penguin Classic Edition) for convenience sake because Maude only translated the Russian into English and left the French parts as is (which is a problem to me, I need both translated).
When I plan to pick up Karamazov Brothers, since it's Dostoevsky I might pick up P & V only. Maybe I'll go through sample of Garnett and P&V and choose one of them.

Currently I am on my first Stephen King book 'The Stand', since it's around 1000+ pages, I have picked us 'The forty rules of love' by Elif Shafak. And today I received my recent purchase from Amazon 'Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine' by Gail Honeyman, so I have started reading that as well.

Try A Suitable Boy or Pillars of Earth. I think you will like them both. :)

Deepika enjoy! Eleanor Oliphant has great reviews. its on my tbr and so is 40 rules.
I'm.too old for Stephen king.

:)
Started Loveless. Going good, so far.

The poetry collection is called Sabrang and is a 65 poem collection written by my cousin across a span of 30 yrs. this is her second printed collection of poems and a third for kids is out too. I'm pretty angry with her for holding out on us. They are beautiful and poignant. unfortunately, she's not registered on GR so, I cannot link her bk. That's my 2021 resolution that's seen fruition in 2022.

Hehe :)
All the books I had read in the past 1-2 weeks were good, so it has been encouraging to explore more books.

Hope the book gets better. You do have 'Persuasion' to look forward to. :)

And you did it! :)

I recommend this to anyone - who wants to read something avant-garde.
This is a very specific type, not everyone will click with it. It's going to be vague in a strange atmospheric setting. Bit unsettling as well.

Didn't read much in last two days. got transported to dramaland. Finished one and started a new, while the one that I am already watching are still waiting for me to resume. Why the life has so many distraction? sigh!!
Anyone else here hooked on dramas/series?
P.S - I know this is the place to share what are we reading but hey most of these drama/series are based on books, so we are also talking about books. ;)

But I did start Reminders of Him on Sunday, read only 4-5 chapters. I have a like-hate relation with Ms Hoover. but this book has been getting a lot of buzz on feed so I was tempted and started on a whim...

That's great. Let me know how you find it, whenever you find time.

No dramas/series. Haven't watched since ages. I think The originals, TVD were my last.
Hoover is big in romance right. Yeah, I'm not read for that.
But Loveless. It was good! I want to gush about it but I don't know how to. So Good!

I guess that's enough. :P

And here I thought you stay away from PNR. 😂"
In my defense, I like the "P" more than the "R".
That was longgg agooo. I liked TO more. It was about power dynamics & Family :D
And I mean Joseph Morgan and Phoebe Tonkin!!! :P
I haven't seen either but i have read 8 books in VD. Good ol' days when i was new to reading and everything fascinated me.
If you like "P" more than "R" try Kate Daniels by Ilona Andrews, its all about power dynamics and family and love too. ;)

TO - definitely better.
And if you have time, do watch TO atleast couple of episodes. I haven't read either of the books. But I have a feeling TO series will be better than the books. The show writers had changed a lot of things from the books, apparently.
I'll add Kate daniels in tbr.
And I'm not looking at the last 2 words of your description. :P

As in, we either click with it or not. That way, it'll be a good discussion of why it was 1/2 star for some and 4/5 stars for others.
If we already have something like that, please ignore the above.

Has anyone watched ? --> There used to be Poirot tv series. I haven't watched, but my uncle once told me that, in DD they used to telecast - along the lines of "Agatha's mysteries" - something like that.
Leena, PNR - Paranormal Romance.

if you are interested I catching crime series try
1.Inspector Lynley.
2. Midsommer Murders.
3. Inspector Morris -
4. Vera.
They are good but I. talking of series way back.as I mentioned I've not watched any recent shows
