The Perks Of Being A Book Addict discussion
Team Sherlock Holmes
How involved in the story does a character have to be to count? The book I’m currently reading has a character called Urdu but he is strictly off-screen - the other characters are looking for him and he is mentioned a few times. Can that count for our U?
Definition of a character per the Uno Pixie is that the character needs to have some dialogue and meaning to the story.
We now have all three clues for the mystery. Head on over here to discuss thoughts on who murdered Faustus.
Got it, so this one won’t count :(My current book has no letters, but I’m almost done, so I’ll search through my library for an I or a U before I start my next book!

Do we still report for the month of February for books read? Is everything done with the Feb tasks on the spreadsheet?
I'm finishing off a book this evening for our last card in the mini-challenge. All that's left to do is solve the mystery.
Congratulations, you have solved the mystery!!A solving bonus of 50 points will be added to your team spreadsheet.
Great work Team. That's February complete with a little over 3 days to spare. Any books finished before the start of the new month will not be carried over. If you can hold off finishing until the new month starts that would be great
This is one of the easiest Team games with little to no stress. As the month progresses I may reach out with what is still needed, like we did this month. All I ask is that everyone checks in at least once a week with an update.
Great job team! I'm sorry for not checking in for the past couple of days. I have a huge deadline coming up and all my spare time is going to working on that.. I wish I could have read more books this month. But, once that deadline is over (next monday!) I can catch up and get some more books going. I'll hold off finishing my current one just so we can use it for next month.
Is there a reason why the completed SKIP-card in hand nine hasn't gotten any points in the spreadsheet? Or is it just forgotten?
I just added 2 books, and I'm thinking one may work for 4 yellow and/or 6 yellow - the central color on the cover is definitely a gold/yellow, but the background is more of a dark brown so I'm not 100% sure it counts:
Sorry Carlie, that one is definitely brown. When looking at cover colours the cover needs to give an overall impression of being that colour.
I was looking at the spreadsheet and have two comments:- Hands of flame in Hand nine hasn't got any points, so we're missing 25 points at the moment.
- Grave mercy in hand eight, the reasons aren't correct.
Maybe I'm wrong and you guys have an explanation that I don't know about. I just think it's better to find out early so that we have time to correct it in case something is forgotten:)
Thinks for the heads up Tina, that's what happens when I update before my morning cuppa. We are still waiting on Dima to add books to her shelf and mark them as read. Once that is done the spreadsheet will be updated. I go through the spreadsheet every couple of days to check for errors and to see if we can maximise points by moving books around.
Hi all! I'm not sure if I should be sending a message to someone in particular, but I'm afraid I have to drop out. I knew February was going to be extremely busy for me, but I still feel like I barely have the time to read. My reading schedule definitely isn't what it was last year.. It seems more fair that someone on the reservation list, who has more time to contribute, to have a shot at it, instead of me.
Even though I didn't contribute a lot, I still enjoyed seeing all of you work so hard for the team. Hope this is okay! I'll still be around to support you all, best of luck!

Shame to lose you on the team Nikki, but thats life sometimes!Kind of you to let us know, I'm sure there will be a happy person on the reservation list :)

A couple of housekeeping issues:
• Can you make sure that all books posted are marked as read and are on your UNO shelf. If a book is highlighted in red on the s/sheet it isn't showing.
• Can you make sure to post your books up-to-date by Midnight on the 12th March please. The March mini game is being planned and s/sheets need to be fully updated.
• If you are able to read for any of the reverse cards or a Color card let us know.
We're doing great team.
I just got back today from a mini trip (saturday morning to now). Will update my books soon, have a few.
Just added my books from over the weekend and one fits 6 green! According to TinEye, Stormcaster is 92.9% shades of green :)
March Mini-Challenge◈ Books with a read date between March 15 - March 31 count. (countdown to the start of the mini challenge is here)
◈ Books can be started at any point since the start of the UNO challenge (Feb 1)
◈ As a team, you will have a mixture of tasks to complete. These include spell-it-outs, cover items, words in text, and words in title. All of the tasks you need to complete are on your team spreadsheet
◈ Books used for this mini challenge do not need to be separate books for what you are claiming for your UNO hands
◈ The usual book length rules apply
◈ Team spreadsheets will be updated with a mini challenge tab so that you can track your books and claim your points
Spell-it-out rules
For this mini-challenge, you are using the same rules that apply for UNO. So a letter needs to be the first letter in the book title, author first name or surname, character name or nickname, or setting. Articles (a/an/the) can be ignored in the book titles. For this spell-it-out, you can also use the first letter in the series name.
☞☞ If you team has been allocated to the CRIMINAL group:
In order to get away with the perfect crime you will need to complete all of your tasks AND read a book that someone on a DETECTIVE team has read during UNO. Once that is done, you are free and will be given 30 bonus points

Great :-)
Just clarifying - Does “read a book with the word XX in the text” mean that word can appear anywhere within the book and it counts? And if so, do we need to take a screenshot or something to prove that it’s there?
Carlie wrote: "Just clarifying - Does “read a book with the word XX in the text” mean that word can appear anywhere within the book and it counts? Normally it is sufficient that you post the sentence with the word and the location/page number.
