Emily | 3 comments I believe this was a YA novel, but it might have been an adult novel. I probably read it about 2/3 years ago (2016). The main plot points that I remember is the girl becomes a live in nanny for a family with a busy mom, a young boy, and an older boy who is mute. I also remember there being a lot of scenes around the pool in the family's back yard, and that the main character either drank a lot or somehow had a lot of alcohol bottles that lead her employer to think that she drank a lot.

Emily, what is the story's time period and location (country, region, big city/small town)?

How old is heroine? What was she doing before becoming a live-in nanny? How did she learn about the job? Who and where is the boys' father?

Is this a romance? When did the teenage boy stop speaking?

Emily | 3 comments The time period and geography weren't very important in the book, but I believe that it was based in the late 2000s or early 2010s.

I believe that the heroine took the job as some sort of message to her own mother, or as a way to connect to her mother. I think she had red hair also.

The book wasn't a romance per say, more of a journey of self exploration. I distinctly remember the mother of the boy who didn't speak specifying that he just never started speaking, and that she thought it was a preference because "he wasn't a genius or anything like that"

The tone doesn't sound right, but some of the keywords match -- Woman No. 17 by Edan Lepucki? (Google search -- site:www.goodreads.com "young adult" nanny mute "two boys" mother)
