What Have You Read - 2019
Just finished A Darker Shade of Magic, and gave it 4 stars. It actually took me 2 tries to get into it. The first time I picked it up; I was bored, this time it seemed to click. Maybe it was just my mood at the time.
Not horror, but I finished reading Doing Justice: A Prosecutor's Thoughts on Crime, Punishment, and the Rule of Law. I thought it was an excellent look at our justice system.
I finished up
and thought it was a blast! Bram Stoker and Oscar Wilde chase vampires and werewolves through London in the late 1870's.

I just finished this novella up and it was some dark, creepy fun (well, I found it fun but my sense of humor is skewed).
just finished...
It started slow, then went really creepy and intense and I loved it, then the ending kind of left me unsatisfied and was a little meh, the guy definitely knows how to write a thriller I just hope the next one I pick up is a little more consistent throughout (at least for me)

Sounds like they need a crossover with Abe Lincoln: Vampire Slayer!

Added this one to my list. This is right up my alley.

Currently reading An Ember in the Ashes and Black and Blue."
I go on Mira Grant binges, also under her other name.. Rolling in the Deep (Rolling in the Deep, #0.5) was hella nice too.
Now reading a 3rd book in a row in the same YA series, Stormcaster (Shattered Realms, #3) by Cinda Williams Chima.. has lite GOT vibe, a lot of fun

Finished reading The Space Merchants by Frederik Pohl & C.M. Kornbluth, which was, for me, a five-star classic science fiction story.
Just finished When Darkness Loves Us by Elizabeth Engstrom.Great book! I need to read more from Ms. Engstrom...pronto!
Incredible book, my new all-time favorite. It had everything I could have possibly wanted in a horror/fantasy - Clive Barker is the best.
The Casual VacancyNot a fan of this one. I honestly haven't been a fan of any of her books minus the Harry Potter series, which I haven't read yet but I do have the first book.
Been forever since I've read the core Dragonlance books, and forgot how good they really are. And how fucking long they are. This one book set me back reading time for at least two other books.

Valancourt is soon bringing back more of her work! Stay tuned!
(I thought Darkness was phenomenal!)

I enjoyed the first book."
Have you read the Pine Deep trilogy by that author? They were his first novels, and are so much fun. The stakes (no pun, but there are vampires...and other things) just amp up over the three books, and the characters are probably the best he's put to paper.
Erin wrote: "No. I haven't read that series. I have read some of his Joe Ledger series, though."Cool, well if you get the chance you should check them out.
I liked the first two in the Ledger series, but then the whole "science" aspect just seemed to suck the fun out of it. Since the entire concept is batshit crazy to begin with, I don't understand Maberry's insistence on acting as though these are potential, legitimate threats. But hey, he seems to be doing okay out of it.

I will.
I have only read the first two Ledger books so far. I felt a little bit that way for the second book but as you said, he seems to be making out well with the concept.
