Just finished a new author's book The Obsidian as well. While I don't think it's as scary as some I've read it's fucking twisty and gory at parts.

Not sure where to ask this question but would Dark Matter and Recursion by Blake Crouch belong in this group? They are memory altering stories. I've already read DM and am currently reading Recursion. I think both would be great discussion books. These books don't seem to fall into any Sci-Fi groups I have seen. Thx!

Are you wondering if the Crouch stories would qualify as horror? We use a fairly wide definition of horror here: if the story sends shivers up your spine or keeps you up at night, it's horror. :)
Crouch is popular with our group.

Yeah, anything by Crouch will be good, no matter what genre it's labeled.
I finished up
and thought it was a suspenseful and scary story!

I read these two in the last couple of weeks!
by Kealan Patrick BurkeThis book was extreme, but it was really good!
by Jeff StrandThis book was really good too and has some extreme parts mixed with vengeful ghosts!
It's a shame Ira Levin only wrote a few books, and only half of them were horror/thrillers, because he wrote some damn fine books.
Just finished Shadowland
by Peter StraubWhilst I really enjoyed it, I struggled a little with the ending and following the magic!

The end sealed it for me, pretty enjoyable."
I'm looking forward to the TV series on Showtime. I hope they don't mess it up.
I finished up In Darkness, Delight: Creatures of the Night
and thought it was a top notch collection.

So it wasn't as 'dry' as it seemed, then? :P (Sorry. Couldn't resist saying that!)

The Place by T.M. WrightMy first book by Wright. It was good, and will definitely be reading more by him. 3/5

Ha! That sounds about right.
Just finished Sefira and Other Betrayals! Great collection I would recommend to anyone. Langan is a new personal favorite.
Finished A Head Full of Ghosts. I can't agree with all the hype this novel got a few years back. 2/5
Apparently not everyone has been impressed but I rather enjoyed The Institute.

You know, that's my least favorite of what I've read from him so far.

Congratulations, Thomas!
This month, I've read two books so far - a sci-fi thriller (Connect by Julian Gough) and a YA horror (Cirque Du Freak #3: Tunnels of Blood: Book 3 in the Saga of Darren Shan by Darren Shan). Both were 4-star reads for me though they were written for different age audiences.

I think you do. 😁
Just finished The Secret of Crickley Hall by James Herbert and absolutely loved it.So often am I recommended haunted house and ghost books that end up being a 300 page work without barely a mention of ghosts (sorry Peter Straub, I'm looking at you).
Crickley is the quintessential haunted house story. So many ghost encounters, good and bad spirits and in a fantastic setting. Solid 5 star rating.
Perfect start to the spooky season.

The latest from Frazer Lee - Hearthstone Cottage. Just right for the season - Remote Scottish location, two young couples, and something supernatural targeting them...
