SOLVED. YA Fantasy Series From the 90’s with Strong Female Heroine. [s]

I’m looking for a YA fantasy series I read in the late 90’s-early 2000’s. It followed a female heroine. She was joined by a male who had magical abilities. I remember there were creatures that tried to deceive people by pretending to be something or someone they weren’t. If you discovered that it was a creature, and not who they were pretending to be, they had to do something for you. One way to tell was looking for their footprints since the creatures didn’t leave any. At one point, the heroine thought that her male companion was one of the creatures because he wasn’t leaving footprints, but he admitted that he was just levitating for fun. If I remember correctly, she finds out that she is a faery or has some magical abilities. They end up in this village of faeries and I recall it being very airy and maybe something about being in the clouds. That’s all I have for now. Thanks!!!
