What Are You Currently Reading - 2019

First time reading Laird Barron, and I'm already a big fan.

I keep on reading fantasy, well lately I haven't really been good with reading this summer, but yeah.. this is supposed to be a bit of Game of Thrones meets the Gladiator, lefts just hope there will be no character assassinations.

I have yet to read a Gifune book I didn't enjoy.
I'm reading some sci-fi:
The Last Astronaut

It was awesome. IMO Crouch's best novel. In my review, I said it should be enjoyed by fans of Michael Crichton, Peter Clines and "Black Mirror".

Great, I plan on checking it out at some point.

Erin, it’s really good!

Randy - would agree that "Visitor" is his best ghost story...

Just started The Woman in Cabin 10. It's been a while since I've read a thriller. I'm going to find it interesting to compare and contrast the story-telling methods of a thriller vs. horror.

I never got around to reading any Ramsay Campbell, is he worth a look?

How do you like it so far?"
It’s scary."
When I first read 1984, it seemed to me a little farfetched that the government would be spying on boring average citizens. I mean, how interesting is it watching people looking at the boob tube? But these days, with China using facial recognition and phone-tracking to keep an eye on the movement of all its citizens, it's starting to look like old George had the right idea. Loved the scene in Room 101.

I'll be interested in hearing what you say. I have it, along with The Troupe on Mount TBR and I guess I'm looking for a trigger to get me to dive in.

Good collection ... unless you mean the actual short story, which is also good. (view spoiler)[Sort of a spoiler, anyway: The premise works while reading because Hartley is that good, but in retrospect it's incredibly goofy, and I imagine L.P. knew that. I imagine him grinning the whole time he wrote it. (hide spoiler)]
My favorite Hartley is probably his most famous, "The Visitor from Down Under," a nuanced and beautifully written ghost story.
