I agree, the new author of the Millenium series has done really well to keep a similar tone and style. I still have the last book to read.

I finished The Gender Games: The Problem with Men and Women, from Someone Who Has Been Both. It was an interesting memoir, at times humourous. I was disappointed that there was no real discussion of pros and cons of of medical intervention for trans people. This is a very topical issue here in Ireland.I am reading The Android's Dream for the group read and so far I've had a few surprises and lots of LOL moments.
On the down side, I am having to reread The Nightingale so that I can take part in my bookclub discussion next week. I didn't enjoy it the first time and my opinion is not improving on reread. I just think the authors style is more suited to romance than war. I will hit it in spots!
That's good of you to reread it, Margo. I never reread for my book club and I certainly wouldn't if I didn't enjoy it the first time. I am, however, one that loved The Nightingale. I find it interesting when people say there was too much romance. I'm not a romance reader and the romance in that one didn't bother me at all. I just started A Week in Winter for my RL book club. I was looking forward to this one as I thought I'd really love it, but so far I'm finding it just ok.
I'm wondering if I'm just in a bit of a meh book mood. I seem to feel that way about most of the books I'm reading all of a sudden. Maybe I need something to pull me out of it or maybe I just need to pick better books in general.

Particularly in her IT workplace. Blows my mind, yet we don't listen to these testimonies about how genders are treated differently in the world.

My grandson and I are hitting the road in about an hour and we're going to listen to Magyk there and back.

I finished The Witch Elm which was only 3 stars for me. Only because I was expecting more from it. I will start today The Death of Mrs. Westaway
Not at all off my bookshelf but real life events have had me begin Whipping Girl: A Transsexual Woman on Sexism and the Scapegoating of Femininity. Never thought I'd be delving into this but here I am
Sandra wrote: "I finished The Witch Elm which was only 3 stars for me. Only because I was expecting more from it. I will start today The Death of Mrs. Westaway"
I agree with you Sandra. I found that one hard to rate . In the end I think I gave it 5 as I took the view that I should rate it as if it were a "new to me author";but yes, it wasn't her her best work.

A fictional account of how gender issues affect a family has been recommended to me, This is How It Always Is. Another one on my reading pile is Trans Like Me: A Journey for All of Us but I haven't hard anything about that one. It is a facinating subject and needs us all to let go of preconceptions.
Finished Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe
My review: www.goodreads.com/review/show/117444907
I finished Stephen Fry's Victorian Secrets. There were some interesting tidbits of information about the Victorian era.
It's over-the-top adrenaline, action, and high-tech when Gregg Hurwitz brings Orphan X, aka the Nowhere Man, Out of the Dark and pits him against US President Jonathan Bennett.
4★ Link to my review (which has no cracks about the current administration, tempting though it was)
I finished Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? today. I'll go back to reading The Elfstones of Shanarra. I left it when the library hold for DADOES became available.
Just finished reading The Outrun by Amy Liptrot. This is a beautifully written memoir set between London and the Orkney Islands about recovery from addiction. The descriptions of the islands and their natural world are exquisite.
I haven't read anything these past couple of weeks as I was taking some time off from reading due to a slump. I'm now, thankfully, back in the mood for reading again so I am starting The Catch Trap for the Movie Mania challenge.
I have finally read the very first Disc World book, The Colour of Magic, by the much-loved, late Terry Pratchett, whose phenomenal output earned him a knighthood. What an absolute romp of a book!

I finished Magyk on the road trip with my grandson. We both enjoyed it.Now that I have finished the group read, I will go back to my paperback The Elfstones of Shannara. Tomorrow, I will start To Kingdom Come on audiobook.
I'm still making my way through Assassin's Quest. I've been reading it for 3 weeks already. Hopefully I can finish it tonight.I have also started and almost finished The Boy on the Wooden Box, which is a memoir of a man who was one of the youngest people saved by Oskar Schindler during WWII. It's clearly aimed at a younger audience, but so so much better than for example The Boy in the Striped Pajamas
Tales From Nature: Bee by Magali Attiogbé is a sweet little picture book for toddlers. Big, simple, cheerful illustrations that show the life-cycle of a bee.

Just finished a new favourite, Scrublands! Seasoned Aussie journalist and foreign correspondent Chris Hammer excels with his fictional debut about mysterious crimes in a small, HOT country town.

PattyMacDotComma wrote: "Just finished a new favourite, Scrublands! I just got it, and then found out I had worked with his wife for over a year.
He said at an author talk I went to in Feb that he had just submitted the second book.
Rusalka wrote: "PattyMacDotComma wrote: "Just finished a new favourite, Scrublands! Seasoned Aussie journalist and foreign correspondent Chris Hammer excels with his fictional debu..."Great! I was sure I’d heard him say or read that he was about finished with another, but then I couldn’t find the reference when I wrote the review. I was going to say I’m looking forward to it. He has said he is NOT Martin Scarsden, but he’s certainly had an interesting life. Let me know how you like it when you read it.
Change of plan. I was going to read The Catch Trap but a friend then asked me if I would buddy read The Silence of the Girls with her so I am starting that instead. I've been hearing good things about it and I have enjoyed some of Pat Barker's other books so my hopes are quite high.
I'm in a bit of a reading slump so I'm going for short and uncomplicated books. Right now I'm reading A Long Way Home for the movie challenge.
I was just saying that in another group. I’m in a bit of a meh phase where every book is just ok. I’m going to start The Mother-in-Law by Sally Hepworth because I enjoyed the last book I read by her and figure out where to go from there.
I am suffering from the same virus. It seems all my last books were 3 stars... including the one I am reading now. :/
I'm just not in the mood to pick up a book. I started one today because I had a long train ride, but when I'm home I'd rather do other stuff. Hope you get out of your slumps soon!
I finished The Android's Dream for the group read and movie challenge. Now moving on to another Scalzi with The Consuming Fire for the monthly challenge.
I sympathise with all of you who are suffering slumps. I have literally just gotten out of one. It took me nearly 3 weeks to get back in the mood for reading again. Also, I'm having a bit of a mediocre year so far book-wise. I haven't had any 5 star reads yet, apart from As Meat Loves Salt and that was always going to happen seeing as it was a re-read and my all time favourite book. I have had a couple of 4 star reads but no book has really "captured" me so far.I hope you all get back in the mood for reading again soon.
I've started English Animals. I don't think it will fit into the annual challenge but I haven't given up trying to squeeze it in somewhere!
Margo wrote: "I've started English Animals. I don't think it will fit into the annual challenge but I haven't given up trying to squeeze it in somewhere!"Looks like it will fit LGBT task under Genre for Book 32, if you do not have that one filled. Looks interesting. I love the red fox on the cover.
Maybe Author under Book 33 - it looks like it is her debut book.
It is good so far! Thanks for tips. I don't have either slot filled but have books pencilled in for both. But as the saying goes .....a book in the hand is worth 2 in the bush!
I finished To Kingdom Come this afternoon. I plan on continuing the series but in print format. I was quite distracted by the narrator.I started The Talisman. Ahhhh, Frank Muller reading Stephen King! It can't get any better than that.
I will look out for your thoughts on Talisman. I bought it recently too. I was just saying to Annerlee that I need to read another King book soon as i've not read one this year yet.
Finished A Well-Behaved Woman: A Novel of the Vanderbilts

I've recently finished two booksRasputin: A Short Life
https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
and
Caught in Time
https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I'm now reading The House on Half Moon Street and listening to The Wych Elm
Finished English Animals and it was great! I highly recommend it. It is a gentle satire on human behaviour. It made me smile and it came close to making me cry! Best contemporary fiction I've listened to this year.At the opposite ehd of the scale was Pieces of Her. This book has a very weak plot and the characters behavior in ways that don't make sence. My advice on this on is to approach with caution :-(
I am moving on to When All Is Said which seems very bleak so for, and My Sister, the Serial Killer.
I have jumped ship on The Silence of the Girls. I found it very disappointing. I tried to push on through but I just couldn't do it. Here are my thoughts: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...I am now going to start The Outcasts of Time for the monthly challenge.
Finished the Magpie Murders. I found it pretty entertaining. You can see my review here: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Now I am flirting with the idea of starting The Sherlockian

I need to move Magpie Murders up on my priority list.
Who doesn't love a ladybug? Tales From Nature: Ladybug is another cute book for toddlers.
