Yes Denise - Hannah's books frustrates me too. Everyone seems to love them but her "historical" books are really just glorified romances. Which is okay if that's what you want to read.
Finally finished S for Snow with
by Robert Ferguson. I learned my lesson - don't claim a task and then go to the library to check the book out - someone might sneak in ahead of you. Who would have thought anybody else would grab this off the shelf? lol It was fun to read; I love learning details about other cultures and snow, so it worked well for me.
I can take E for Evergreens with
by William W. Johnstone.Next Up: F

But I'm finding right now I have little patience and more and more books are getting a 2 star rating from me."I'd have given it 2.5 stars if GR allowed, but the mystery itself earned a "rounded up to 3 stars" instead of a "rounded down to 2" :)

The book/s I wanted were on the shelf -- until the day I went to get them, then they were suddenly all checked out! How on earth does that happen not just once, but several times in a couple of months?

LOL True -- if only I knew who it was!

How on earth does that happen not just once, but several times in a couple of months?"Unfortunately this is not my problem: living in Italy, libraries do not have the English books that I love to read. My problem is that kindle versions of books tend to be disappearing lately. For a couple of months now it is no longer possible to buy the kindle version of a book released at the end of January! And I'm always waiting for some offer so I was screwed ...

The remaining Kindle books from a series I was reading were suddenly no long available, leaving me stranded halfway through the series. Someone was trying to sell a used paperback copy of the next book I needed -- for over $700! Ummm, thanks, but I don't want to read it *that badly LOL
Just an FYI - I will be starting a NEW thread for this in 2022. I am running out of posts for completed books.
Jan wrote: "Just an FYI - I will be starting a NEW thread for this in 2022. I am running out of posts for completed books."Will you pick up where we left off in this thread? Or start all over with A? Doesn't really matter, I'm just curious :)
Barb - I will probably start with A. I might close this one after the next set depending on how fast or slow it goes.
Finished I for Insect with
by Agatha Christie. I listened to the audiobook - I think Hugh Fraser does a great job with these. He kind of channels David Suchet as Poirot, maybe because they worked together so long?
I can do J for Jays with

I finished listening to J for Jays with
by Donna Andrews. Another fun entry in the series - #30! Up Next : L
Thanks Teri! I didn't care for the first book of that series. I wonder if I should give #2 a try. I finished my K book so I can L with Lantern

I think the first isn't the best; the first one I read was Crouching Buzzard, Leaping Loon. But humor is really personal, so it just might not appeal to you. I know folks who don't think P. G. Wodehouse is funny, and I love Jeeves and Wooster. So who can tell?

Do you find that reading them out of order works okay??

Do you find that reading them out of order works okay??"They absolutely can be read out of order, as long it doesn't bother you that she gets married, moves, and has twin boys as the series goes on. My personal favorites are #2, 3, 4, 7, 10, 12, 13, 15, 17, 19, 21, 24, 25, 26 and 29. There's a few to choose from. :)
I'd say pick one that sounds good to you at the moment and give it a try. There are a few I don't like, and a couple I haven't read, but my library and Overdrive have them all so I've picked them up over the years. The narrator's fine, so audiobooks work for me, too, though the author can be a little bit wordy with her internal monologue, and I notice it more when I'm listening.

Thanks for the info! I do have a million series I'm working on already but I might give another one a try. Series are my favorite to read because I am a very "character" oriented reader. I sometimes have a hard time getting into stand alones as I try to get to know the new people.

my ratings of these cheap or free kindle books are usually very low I don't fall for them anymore they are usually junky. I'm not saying that is what Barb was reading - I don't know what she was reading as far as that - but its usually those self- published things
Of course, Kirsten Hannah always gets a 1 star rating from me
but thats because she is a lazy researcher and gets facts wrong.
Don't read her anymore. Like fingernails on the chalkboard.
