#33!

We just added #23 Shadow of the Wind. If you know of anyone else with it, can you let me know?
I'm adding some series too.

Me too Amy-we have not read together in awhile!

message 153: by Amy (new)

Amy | 12913 comments Gotta fix that! Like ten of my Trim books lined with Rachel. I only have a few possible buddy reads with others in Trim. Strange the Dreamer, Incantation, From Sand and Ash, Invisible Bridge. Made everyone switch to me, because I didn’t want to mess with my alphabetization - lol. Actually did move From Sand and Ash a drop so folks could join the Educated group. Maybe next month we will have a match for something.

They're on the chart now. I feel the same way about The Book Thief. There are a few books I might never do without a buddy read or group read.

Amy | 12913 comments Nope! This is not how this goes. I know you’re trying to be helpful. But what would be more helpful is for you and I to work on this list together and present it in the timelines that I outlined. This is too much too early and too public. This thread is over. But I thank you for getting it started. You and I are going to work on it, and not have this be a disorganized free-for-all. Just message me and we can do this in the timely way that I outlined more than once. Forgive me if I sound curt. I just think we have to be more streamlined and effective around to this. We are 1000 members. Thank you for your understanding Nancy.

Amy this is just a summary of the remaining buddy reads we have now, as of the October pick. I've updated this a few times this year. This is NOT what I am proposing for 2020.

Though, as people consider making changes to their list for 2020, they might want to consider the books that other people have selected for buddy reads.

message 163: by Amy (new)

Amy | 12913 comments Nancy, it’s actually not helpful. I think we should stick with the proposed plan and have us work on it amongst ourselves and then present it. Can you please delete the thread? Otherwise we are about to have a free-for-all that doesn’t make sense.

message 164: by Cora (new)

Cora (corareading) | 1921 comments It is helpful for those of us who are working on this year's trim still and not planning on continuing next year so we can see what may be discussed in November or December. I am not signed up for any of the above reads, but I check it when the number is called to see if there are any scheduled for that number that I want to jump in on. :) Please don't delete the thread until 2019's challenge is over.

message 165: by Amy (new)

Amy | 12913 comments Ok. That’s fair. But let that be its purpose. For 2019. Nancy and I will work on it for 2020 together. Let’s not get involved as a group (yet) in planning this for 2020.

I'm doing the same thing Cora. This is the same list we've had all along, I just eliminated the used numbers.

NancyJ (nancyjjj) | 11062 comments Updated list in post 167.

message 169: by Amy (new)

Amy | 12913 comments I really appreciate that Nancy. Thank you for getting that taken care of so early in the game. I know you said you would be really busy in late November so that was awesome.

NancyJ (nancyjjj) | 11062 comments For Amy - As promised, here is the updated Buddy read summary, with the completed buddy reads removed.

The original numbers 1-36 are shown next to the book names, with blanks for the used numbers.

The 1-24 numbers are shown to the left (some are in blue). The books are in the exact same order.

If you want to make swaps, this would be a good starting point. I think most people would prefer to keep the list in order, and swap out a few books as we did in June. They may want to join an existing buddy read.

Amy | 12913 comments See? I told you this was a five minute task. I see your excitement for this. I promise that I am on it. Within a few days, as I've said, I will post a planning and organizational thread, and another one in December to kick it off. Your coordination list, is going to make that super easy, and I promise to publish a clear list of the buddy reads so anyone can join in at any point, or create new. Lets wait until we can do this in an organized fashion. I promise to keep the spirit of everything you have made possible so far. Thank you Nancy. You have made this possible by doing such a great job last year... Happy Thanksgiving all.

message 172: by Amy (new)

Amy | 12913 comments Nobody should be moving anything. This is Nancy‘s suggestion of a sample and it really doesn’t help us all to be working off of it. As I have stated numerous times, I will publish something in a few days that will help us organize these together. Let’s not start jumping the gun, it isn’t helpful. I’d like everyone to wait for me to have us do this in a way that’s mainstream, easy, and not confusing. Please, nobody be continuing this. I know it’s intended to be helpful, but I’d rather start fresh.

I’d like to join in when you read sand and ash. I have gentleman from Moscow in that slot now, so it would just be an extra book for me.

message 174: by Joanne (new)

Joanne (joabroda1) | 12568 comments Just to put my 2 cents in here, and really no offense to anyone-just my feelings....

When this idea originally came out, it came from Amy (I believe, I could be wrong). She stepped up and said she would spearhead it. I think Amy is just trying to make it happen in the easiest and similar way as most challenges happen here. If this were being handled by the the Mods, I seriously doubt any of this discussion would be happening. Let's just sit back, and see what Amy has come up with. Without any bad or hurt feelings.

Nancy, I for one appreciate all you did with the Buddy Reads this year. There are a couple of books (The High Mountains of Portugal -*bleah*) I would have never gotten through without them. I am looking forward to them again. However, so many of us have stated we are changing out books, I just think should wait until everything else is set.

BooknBlues, I really don't think Amy was talking to directly to you-just making a general statement for everyone to wait a bit.

Again, just my thoughts

NancyJ (nancyjjj) | 11062 comments I really enjoyed the buddy reads, and I hope you all did too. I won't be able to participate in Amy's planned discussions this week, but I wanted to update the 2019 list as my last contribution to the project. Feel free to use it, change it, or ignore it. The Original list (with all buddy reads and dates) is shown in Post #2. The updated list in Post #177 shows both the 1-36 numbering and the 1-24 numbering. Either one will work.

Amy will set up a new thread for 2020 with her plan. Take it away Amy!

message 176: by Amy (new)

Amy | 12913 comments Hello everyone, I deeply apologize to everyone if my tone sounded sharp above. I wrote personal letters to the two people involved, and now I am offering to every single one of you, that although it is my intention to be clear and kind in all of my interactions, I am sorry if I have missed the mark. The whole idea is to do something fun and community building and not stressful for all. And above all to be kind to one another.

So the moderators have been working really super hard on the exciting real and official challenges they are planning for next year, and I am sensitive to wanting our group focus to be there and not have this optional challenge overshadow that. Plus, we may want to know what kinds of things we might be reading for 2020 before we recreate or create our extra lists. So even though I said I would publish a planning and organizational thread for this by or around tomorrow, it feels to me that even that is too early. What I can say is this. Nancy, I deeply appreciate your suggestion about how to reorder the numbers to 24, but I am inclined to have the buddy reads that people were created and were excited about stay at the same number. As we could see late last night, its confusing for everybody to move them. I think any of the remaining buddy reads between 25-34, I can slip into numbers we used in 2019, and that will be more streamlined. So anyone who wants a jump on this, and really feels compelled to start on this side challenge now, can already be clear that any current buddy read through the number 24 is going to stay in the same place. I would look at Nancy's post #167 to see what they were/are, and rest assured, I/we will put the remaining ones in the missing (used) places. When the thread is opened, we will publish the list, and it will be clear where new spots are, or if your group read doesn't include others on the same number you are good to go. Again, this is meant to be a fun thing for those who want to continue and join, and its meant to be inclusive, and as with everything we do on Goodreads, with good and loving tone. Again, if I have or ever miss that mark, please accept my apology and know it was never my intention to harm. I love all of you guys, and love reading and sharing ideas and lives with you. I recognize that like life, feelings can get hurt, and that people can bristle. But always I think our connection, our care for one another, and what makes us jazzed up - unites us, and unites us more strongly than division ever could. Its why we do this, and keep coming back. Lets let this Optional Trim 2020 Continuation breathe, and everyone have a beautiful blessed Thanksgiving. With love to you all, Amy
