Elysia | 3 comments I read The Friend by Sigrid Nunez and I just did not like it. I feel like I missed the symbolism or something deeper because I know lots of people love it but I thought it wasn’t great. Not terrible but not good either.

Amber (amberpic) | 31 comments I read The Poet X and cried. It was beautiful.

I second the recommendation of All Systems Red! It was probably my favorite read last year!

Anna | 7 comments I read The Hate U Give for book club, and The Marrow Thieves which is reaching a bit for a 2018 award, but it definitely won something in 2018 and I want to read more First Nations authors.

Errlee | 8 comments I just finished Washington Black by Esi Edugyan for this one - it won the Giller Prize last year and was also nominated for the Booker. I liked it for the most part but did not like the ending at all :(

Milena (milenas) | 104 comments I read The Stone Sky, which won the Hugo award in 2018. What a great trilogy!

Lauren Salerno | 2 comments The 2018 Stoker Awards are this weekend! Hoping The Hunger by Alma Katsu wins for best novel so it'll count for this challenge.

I'm going to also keep in mind Autonomous by Annalee Newitz. She's a science writer but she wrote this novel that won a Lambda.

I read The Poet X already and I think everyone planning to do so for this challenge is in for a treat. Without a doubt one of my favorite books I read last year.

So I chose a poetry collection that also works for Task #9: A book published prior to January 1, 2019, with fewer than 100 reviews on Goodreads. I have chosen to read In the House of My Father. The Author Hiwot Adilow won the 2018 Brunel International African Poetry Prize. "

Thank you for the recommendation. I loved it!

Sara | 8 comments I read 'Children of Blood and Bone' by Tomi Ayedemi. It was really good, and a Goodread's Choice Awards Winner as well, in case you are trying to read those as well!

Charley Girl (charleygirl9) | 11 comments Do the books have to win the award or can the book be a nominee? I still haven't picked for this category.

message 114: by Teresa (new)

Teresa | 416 comments I listened to The Strange Case of the Alchemist's Daughter which won the 2018 Audie Award for Best Fantasy. I really enjoyed it, will continue with the series.

Karen Witzler (kewitzler) | 173 comments Finishing up challenge and was going for Celestial Bodies or An American Marriage when I finally caught on to the 2018 part.

Now going with Newbery 2018 winner Hello, Universe -- the author is a woman and a Filipino-American.
