Liz (liz_the_librarian) With most of the year now behind us, I thought it might be time to talk about the books that we probably could have gone without reading.

I didn't read any truly horrible books this year, and if I had, I would have just put them aside and not even bothered to finish. I did have a few that were lackluster, though.

Allegiant, the conclusion to the Divergent trilogy, was a big disappointment to me, and not due to the major event that happens at the end. I just felt the final book was not as well written as the previous two, and I think the author may have been trying to rush to meet a deadline. It almost makes the entire series a waste to me.

The Darkest Night was just a waste of time; I don't think the paranormal romance thing is for me.

Finally, Homeland was the biggest disappointment. Again, it wasn't bad; I even enjoyed it. But compared to its prequel, Little Brother, it felt way to preachy, which got annoying half-way through.

Allegiant (Divergent, #3) by Veronica Roth The Darkest Night (Lords of the Underworld, #1) by Gena Showalter Homeland (Little Brother, #2) by Cory Doctorow

Without further ado, which book(s)that you read so far this year was/were your least favorite?

My least favorite book so far has been Death Come Quickly by Susan Wittig Albert. Although I enjoy the China Bayles series, this one seemed a bit half-hearted and too preachy to me.

Aerial Lejong (alejong) | 4 comments I struggled with the graphic novel challenge. I read Heavy Liquid and it was definitely not something I enjoyed. The genre is just not something I can get into.

Pattie Babbitt Okay, my least favorite comes from the classic challenge. I read Tess of the D'Ubervilles (English/Chinese) by Thomas Hardy , and although in general I liked the story, I think it would have been a better short story. Cut out all the fluff and it was maybe a novella!

Julie | 130 comments Hmm, I think if I had to pick a least favorite it would be Have Space Suit—Will Travel by Robert A. Heinlein .

I listened to it, and the audio book was well done, I just didn't like the story all that much. Otherwise I've enjoyed most of my books this year.
