Becky (fibrobabe) | 1573 comments What are everyone's big plans for the holidays?

Our plans are pretty laid back, no traveling or anything. My mother and I live together, and my brother will be here Christmas Eve and Christmas day. (He lives locally, so he's just coming over for the day, not a house guest.) And Mom invited a couple from her church for Christmas dinner. We stay in and order Chinese food on New Year's Eve, and we usually watch a movie or something. I'll probably spend the week between getting my new planner set up for the year and reading as much as possible. Not exactly glamorous, but I'm excited about it!

Kristen (kristenlees) no big plans over here - all of my family is back home so we only have 1 or 2 get togethers with my husband's family. So lots of relaxing and reading time over here :) i am also excited about getting my new planner set up for the year lol

SandyL | 584 comments I'll have a quiet holiday as well. My brother, his girlfriend and his son, and my sister and her daughter will come over on Christmas night for dinner. Otherwise I'll watch my dogs open their presents - they LOVE tearing up tissue paper!!!

message 105: by Becky (new)

Becky (fibrobabe) | 1573 comments Growing up, we had a dog who *loved* to sniff out her present under the Christmas tree! Her treats went under the tree right before we started opening presents Christmas morning. She was good about not messing with the presents or the tree, and we didn't want to tempt her into trouble by leaving a wrapped box of dog biscuits where she could get at them. She and the cat got their presents first thing, and then they were satisfied to settle down and watch the mayhem.

The cat was reasonably good about not messing with the ornaments or presents. But she always stole a little branch off our fake tree as we were trying to set it up, and that became her new favorite toy for the year. We had our last live tree the year she was a kitten. Dad came around the corner into the living room and found her staring out at him from the middle of the tree. After that, we went artificial. :P

Eugenia (eugereviews) | 2084 comments I’m scambling to get my classes graded, pack up and move classrooms again, clean my house, piano lessons, pack for two weeks, drop my car off to get fixed and catch a flight tomorrow afternoon to Florida. Whew!!!

My family moved there and were are visiting!

message 107: by SandyL (new)

SandyL | 584 comments I love pet and Christmas tree stories @Becky!

I hope you get everything done and then can relax, @Eugenia - with a nice glass of wine if you imbibe!!

I hope all the scrambling goes well, and that you're able to enjoy a relaxing holiday with your family!

Makbeth | 69 comments Like you I will have quiet holiday☺️lots of hard work at my company so lots of reading and relaxing in sight as well!!
Christmas Eve will be at my parents and Christmas Day at my boyfriend’s grand mother☺️
No worries with my parents dog, she is sweet and never tore up presents but did turn the home upside down one or twice when she was younger though😀
I will try to organize my next travel in May 19 and try to buy plane tickets before prices rise by end January☺️
Eugenia what a programme!! I hope you will relax and enjoy family time as well!
Sandy and Becky, I also love pets... and I am fond of cats. I found them so loving, funny and clever. I am in countryside but, we are living in an apartment and I don’t want to make pets miserable. When we will be able to have our own house, the yes probably but my man said if we are to have a cat it will be a Main Coon 😮😄and that’s another story lol .
I also hope to catch up on some tv shows because I am really late.
And you, what are you watching at the moment ???

message 110: by Eugenia (new)

Eugenia (eugereviews) | 2084 comments I just finished the second season of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel—so funny!!! I also recently binged Sense8. Amazing and HOT series!!!

message 111: by A Jizinha (new)

A Jizinha (jizinha) | 69 comments I should finish my book before the deadline.

I am already living my big plan :-) , in Canada as I told you. It is really cold but we were expecting even more.
Back home the temperature is above average this summer.

message 112: by Kristen (new)

Kristen (kristenlees) good luck Eugenia! that is a lot going on.

Becky that's hilarious about the pets. I have 3 cats and 2 couldn't care less about the tree, but the 3rd is the reason I still haven't put the tree up. She absolutely loves climbing it and trying to send it crashing to the ground. She also loves batting the ornaments off the tree, thankfully we don't have any breakable ones. I've never had a live tree, I imagine they'd all go nuts if I did. My MIL's dog used to be a great source of entertainment on christmas day, he'd rip open his presents and destroy the toys within the hour.

Wow, Makbeth a maine coon - they are huge! My 3rd cat is bigger than the other two and we think she has something like that in her because her paws are huge.

I keep meaning to watch Mrs Maisel, Eugenia - it looks hilarious. I'd not heard of Sense8, but your note makes me want to watch it for sure. I don't watch a ton of TV, normally reading, but every now and again I don't feel like a book and then I binge watch a show. My attention span is really really short though, so if it's more than a couple seasons I get bored. I most recently watched Great News, which I thought was fabulous and I'm sad they cancelled it.

No worries Ferdinanda! Stay warm. It's quite warm here for December, which I will never complain about lol.

message 113: by Becky (new)

Becky (fibrobabe) | 1573 comments As an adult I had a cat named Trouble. (He died a few years ago.) He never tried to climb the tree, but he strongly felt that any ornament he could reach was fair game. So the entire bottom half of my tree was always non-breakable ornaments. When I started knitting I made some soft yarn ornaments, including a little ball out of self-striping sock yarn. He used to go after that thing like a boxer with a speed bag.

He was such a goofball. He was a really big cat, although nothing like the size of a Maine coon, and a really athletic player. He loved to toss his toys up in the air and catch them. But it bruised his dignity to let anyone watch his antics. If you laughed, he'd give you a dirty look and stop playing. So I had to pretend to ignore him as his toy mouse flew back and forth in front of the TV.

message 114: by Kristen (new)

Kristen (kristenlees) LOL Becky I have to do the same thing with my youngest cat, if she thinks anyone is watching her, she won't play. It's hilarious.

message 115: by Makbeth (new)

Makbeth | 69 comments I have not heard about Mrs Maisel , I’ m curious so I will check it out . Sense8 is on Netflix right? I saw trailers, seem pretty cool.
I intend to continue Casa de papel. Finish first season with my boyfriend and start the second with him and his fifteen daughter☺️it’s really cool for once to like the same tv show.
I’m following Frontier on Netflix and I saw the Outlander season have started. Have you watched it yet? 100% romance and based on books☺️
Like you Kristen i don’t watch much tv. I prefer tv shows when I have time or in the mood.
I don’t know about your tv programmation in USA, but in France it is terrible and with more and more publicity. Oh!! How I do love a good book!! But I admit that Netflix is also really cool and a little revolution at home.
About cats, yeah it’s huge !! Lol I am not asking specially for this cat, but he does not want cats except this one because it is very beautiful and rare ( and hairy OMG me little clean freak 😂I will go mad lol)It would be either a Maine Coon or a Snake .... heuh ok honey I would take the hairy little beast

message 116: by Makbeth (new)

Makbeth | 69 comments I am looking for the next task one or two book for each possibility ... but I have a question about the MPG tag. For a book to be good to the challenge, does it need to be tagged first with romance or if romance is one of all the tags on the main page is enough? Ex: a romance about an alpha shifter. It is tagged first with fantasy/paranormal and second as romance. Can I read it?? Because for the first I tried to have romance first but for alpha almost all of my books are first paranormal or fantasy and then romance ....

message 117: by Kristen (new)

Kristen (kristenlees) it just needs to say romance on the main page, so yep!

I've watched the first season of Outlander and I keep meaning to watch more, but I wanted to read the books first and they are so long I haven't gotten around to it yet.

I would take the Maine Coon over a snake too. I'm so used to cat hair, it's everywhere. I carry a lint roller with me everywhere lol

Thanks Nicole! Just so you know, being on that list doesn't count for the task - it has to be on the shelves or in the blurb. However, not to worry as that book IS tagged as billionaire and rich, so you're all good. I just wanted to let you know :)

message 120: by Makbeth (new)

Makbeth | 69 comments Thank you Kristen !! It will be easier then !! Lots of alphas on my shelves can be eligible if this is the next task !! ... about Outlander, one of my colleague read 3 books. She says it’s really good to read but after these 3 she got bored because the author always used the same path inside the stories and events were predictable. I watched 3 seasons, and now I hope their next adventures will be surprising. If not, I’m not sure to continue....

message 121: by Kristen (new)

Kristen (kristenlees) I know, I have lots of ideas for all the A tasks - I worried about the animal one but then I realised I have a few shifter books, so easy peasy. I have a short and long option for each lol. I get way too much enjoyment out of planning what to read.

My mother in law has read all the outlander books and I do want to eventually, but they are just so long and when there are so many other books out there... you know haha.

message 122: by Eugenia (new)

Eugenia (eugereviews) | 2084 comments I haven’t even looked at books for the next date.! I’ll be on east coast time soon....happy winter solstice all!! (It’s a big deal for us Alaskans since it means we start gaining daylight!!

message 123: by Kristen (last edited Dec 22, 2018 06:01AM) (new)

Kristen (kristenlees) i bet! i imagine i would count every minute of extra daylight.

As long as MKat has no issues with our posts/books, we currently have 2 roses. Woo!

my one christmas get together -besides christmas day- is tonight so i will be out when the task is announced.

same thing applies as last week with the completion posts:

Date Task
Book/cover link
Pages
How book qualified, with links or cover as necessary.
Date Completed with Rating.
If this is your second (or more) book for the task, also include that information.

and it must be main page genre romance and at least 90 pages.

Here are the task possibilities for this week:

A is for Alpha - Read a book tagged as alpha or described in précis.
A is for Alphabet - Read a book with 10 or more different letters in the title.
A is for Another - Read a book in a series longer than a trilogy (at least 4 books). note: the 4 books must be main books, not novellas. you can read a novella for the task, but the series must have 4 main books to count
A is for Animal - Read a book with an animal on cover, about shifters or tagged with animal or pet.

I do have my options all sorted so as long as we aren't out too late I should be able to read one of my shorter books tonight.

we have 2 weeks this time so plenty of time to read a book :)

any issues let me know!

Eugenia (eugereviews) | 2084 comments Hi all....warning: I’m with family tonight in Florida and visiting Disneyworld tomorrow....soooooo Chances are I won’t be in the running for the first 4 roses. 😍

message 125: by MountainKat, Moderator (new)

MountainKat | 31599 comments Just updating, you did earn 2 roses for this week. Ferdinanda did not complete the task this week, she will need to do so for the second date or she will be eliminated. ☹️

For future reference, Nicole, your book need to have the proper qualification listed in your completion post. I am accepting that this week, but will be stricter later.

The Procrastinators got the speedy rose again - damn those guys are serious 😉 I’ll try and get to a book tonight or tomorrow but there’s no real rush.

I’m currently reading Kingdom of Ash, Makbeth- I really need to finish it soon, I’ve been reading it for like a month lol. I just can’t get stuck in for some reason.

Eugenia, Have fun in Disney!

Yay Sandy, good job on the first book! I’m on my phone right now as we are still out and about but I’ll update the tracking later tonight. I’ve been meaning to start that series.

Makbeth | 69 comments Hi! I’m reading and it is a huge book lol so i think I will read just this one for this task ! I want to finish it !!
I see why Kristen, you can’t get in the book. Lots of war and tactics, plots, camps descriptions...... and it’ s been two years since I read the last one ( i did not read tower of dawn was disappointed that she delayed the next book)so, I forgot a lot about characters and it was not easy to pick up where I left of ☺️now it’s better
Eugenia thanks !! You are great !! ☺️

message 146: by Kristen (new)

Kristen (kristenlees) same Makbeth - I skipped Chaol's book. There's apparently a big twist in that book, but you find out about it in Kingdom of Ash, so who cares lol. Kingdom of Ash finally picked up for me at about 25% and now I am at 60%. I barely remembered a lot of the characters or plots from other books, but I'm finally into it. Just trying to finish it before the end of the year!
