Glancing at your to read list there's definitely some things we both want to read!
The City of Brass
Circe
The Golem and the Jinni
The Snow Child

I tried to do the 'compare books' thing and it worked but only listed books we've both read.

I think Laura is up for Green Rider at some point too! :)

lol lol totally missed this comment! I don't mind at all. I keep forgetting about the highest page count thing!

Also I'd be into reading quite a few of the books you mentioned. Green Rider is always a fun read. I've read it a couple times but have yet to finish the series, so I'd be into re-reading it with you guys.

But these also looked interesting:
Promise of Blood (been wanting to read for a while)
Prince of Fools(Do I need to read the Prince of Thorns books to read this one? If so, I might have to pass)
A Shadow in Summer
The Steel Remains
Altered Carbon (my library has a bunch of copies, so this one would be one of the easier ones for me to get my hands on right away)
Spirit Gate(Another one I've had on my tbr pile for a while)
The Grey Bastards(This is another that's been on my tbr pile for a while)

Jessica (raivynwolf) | 712 comments Anyone interested in Kings of Paradise? The sequel just came out and I was planning on re-reading the first one before diving into the 2nd. It's a grimdark with cannibalism thrown in your face on the very first page, so if that's not your thing I totally understand.

Also have some other books that I've been meaning to read
Foreigner
God Stalk
The Darkness That Comes Before
Everfair
Tam Lin

Weird that it only worked for one of us, but ah well.

Yes, I happen to have all of those waiting on my shelves. I have a little wiggle room in February and March but it sounds like you're full 'til June. I don't usually plan that far out, but if you wanted to do Green Rider in the summer I'd be down. :)

Mel | 2360 comments Delitealex wrote: "I'd like to read City of Brass."

Yes, City of Brass has a sequel coming out in February too, although it'll be a wait for the third.

I see we have some other books in common as well. If you want to do a shorter read sometime there are a few options.

A Brother's Price
The Player of Games
Inda - I see quite a few people have this as TBR
Mystic and Rider
1632
The Neverending Story
The Ruins of Gorlan
Sorcery & Cecelia: or The Enchanted Chocolate Pot

Mel | 2360 comments Jessica wrote: "That's a fun idea, I'd love to see what others are planning on reading or would like to read eventually."

I went ahead and compared some of our books as well.

An Ember in the Ashes
Dark Matter
Too Like the Lightning
The Thief

My only issue is I really need to be reading more of my owned books before going out and buying more. (^_^;;)

Virginie | 6109 comments Posting here because I know some of you don't like 'math stuff' and avoid the spreadsheet thread like the plague... ;)

Scoresheet upgrade: you can now enter the date you completed a book by double-clicking on the cell, and using the mini-calendar that pops up.
This will avoid confusion as to how to enter a date (European/American format) and ensure the monthly tallies are working :)

I haven't read Prince of fools, as far as I know you don't need to read Broken Empire to understand the story. But reading it first it will spoil some of the Broken Empire events for you.
But maybe someone else read both series and can better answer your question ;)

message 319: by Virginie (last edited Jan 20, 2019 02:56AM) (new)

Virginie | 6109 comments I read both trilogies: first Broken Empire, then Red Queen's War. You don't need to read Broken Empire first, but as Anni said, you'll get some spoilers on events happening in Broken Empire.

But more than that, you will miss a lot of easter eggs. A LOT. Also, some passages in RQW are consequences of events from Broken Empire, so it might be a little confusing.

message 320: by Siobhan (new)

Siobhan (poi5ongirl) | 8703 comments OK, so seems like it would be best to read Broken Empire first. As it happens, I think you'd really like them, Jessica!

Does the new trilogy, Red Sister etc, have anything to do with those two previous ones?

I own Prince of Thorns, just haven't gotten around to reading it yet. I'll be sure to bump it up on my reading list. And I'm pretty sure that Anni is right and Red Sister is in a different world from the other series.

My TBR-owned : https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...

Here are the series that I'm hoping to start this year:

1. Ketty Jay - Retribution Falls - Chris Wooding - (0 / 4)
2. The Machineries of Empire - Ninefox Gambit - Yoon Ha Lee - (0 / 3) *All books owned
3. Manifest Delusions - Beyond Redemption - Michael R. Fletcher - (0 /3)
4. The Expanse - Leviathan Wakes - James S.A. Corey - (0 / ?) *Only first book owned
5. Luna - New Moon - Ian McDonald - (0/3) *Only first book owned

Though, for my schedule is pretty full until June-ish. I'll be happy if I could start and complete at least 2 of those series. Also, I might postpone the Expanse at least until the last book is published and then do a binge-read for the whole series.

message 334: by Charlie (new)

Charlie (charlieridley) | 5750 comments So despite being unwell all weekend it was quite productive reading wise, kind of. I didn't finish nay of the books I was currently reading but I did start a new one and read about 300 pages. Oops! I really need to stop doing this!

message 335: by Seán (new)

Seán | 602 comments I'm working through two longer books, so it might take this week to finish them up and score some point. I definitely read more from Monday-Thursday - my work commute can be three hours total each day so I get through plenty then. Still, I am looking forward to logging 1200+ pages for The Way of Kings once it's done :D

message 336: by Charlie (new)

Charlie (charlieridley) | 5750 comments That's a huge book Sean, should be worth some major points!
