Hi, I'm Raymond from Manila. This is the first tine that I'll be joining a book challenge ever so I'm really pumped up. I plan to finish 55 books this 2019. I have a lot of projects at the moment, but I'm positive that I shall achieve this. So glad to see so many bibliophiles here.

Hi Everyone!I'm from the United States and have been an avid reader since childhood. My favorite fiction genres are mystery/thriller and Batman comics/graphic novels. I tend to read more non-fiction than fiction and enjoy history, science, and literary criticism.
My official 2019 Challenge goal is 50 books, but I normally read about 100 books per year. I joined this group to track my unofficial challenge: read (at least) 5 books in Spanish, 1 in Japanese, and 1 in Latin. (I'm a native English speaker so my reading ability is greatly diminished in foreign languages.)

I did a Latin A level at school in England nearly 40 years ago. At the age of 15 I was translating chunks of Virgil, Sallust, Julius Caesar, Cicero, Tacitus, Livy, and both Plinys. What I most enjoyed was translating Lucretius's De Rerum Natura, and also the rudeness of Juvenal's Satires.
I envy your Latin skills. :-) I'm going to attempt the Latin translation of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone -- I figure that since I've read it many times in English and once in Spanish I won't be completely lost.
Neptunalia wrote: "I envy your Latin skills. :-) I'm going to attempt the Latin translation of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone -- I figure that since I've read it many times in English and once in Spanish I won..."A whole book - that's an ambitious undertaking, and almost certainly requiring the coining of a lot of neologisms. But it's good to have ambition, and I wish you the best of luck with it.
My Spanish is pretty basic, but I speak good French, having lived in Paris for a while a few years ago.
Good Morning, My name is Kathren. I live in MN - yes it is really cold here however, we are having a mild winter (which I am grateful for). I love reading non fiction, mystery, action & adventure and bio's. I am excited to be part of this group!Big Hugs:)
Hi I’m Irshad from Abu Dhabi , UAEI love reading books. I’m more interested in non fiction and books that tell us about something really which is not the norm.
It’s been a quite a long time infact it’s been years since I last read a book especially due to face book and what’s app.
I intended to revive my love for books once again and I hope I get the motivation by joining this group.
Ciao
Hi everyone, my name is Thura and I'm 20. I'm from Myanmar. I love self-help books, books about social skills and some light novels about teenagers and college life.- My goal for 2019 is to finish at least one book every month. So, it will make at least 12 books by the end of this year. This is neither a task or obligation, I just want to enjoy the pleasure of reading books.
- I am up for this challenge to find answer for these questions through reading
(1) How do I control my bad emotions such as short temper and feeling empty?
(2) How do I learn to love myself and improve my self-esteem?
(3) What can I do as a young adult to improve myself and my society?
- I am completely starter in reading. So, it would be kind of you if you could drop some book recommendations. Thank you.
Hello, I'm Renee, originally from Texas but I live in Scotland. I'm trying to do 30 books this year, I usually read more than my goal but this year I'm doing a few more music things than usual, so we'll see! I like to read mysteries/classic (including modern)/YA/sci-fi/everything (half jk). Your group looked super friendly so I decided to join!
Hi! I'm Ketutar, a middle-aged (will be 50 this year! YAY!) woman, married, no children, two cats, and fibromyalgia, so I'll be in bed most of the days. Plenty of time to read :-)- Where are you from?
I'm from Finland, originally, but live now in Sweden
- What kinds of books do you like to read?
Books with covers and pages between them ;-)
My favorite is middle grade fantasy with a strong, independent, intelligent and kind female protagonist. Lyra in Golden Compass was almost perfect, and then Philip wrote the second book and spoiled it for me :-D
I love fairytales and epic fantasy, Tolkien was my favorite author for many years. I love C.S.Lewis - haven't yet read a book by him I didn't like. Though Narnia's Last Fight comes very, very close... There are some redeeming bits in it, though.
I love magical realism.
- How did you find our group?
Somebody mentioned doing a goodreads challenge and reading 300 books, and I am a sucker for challenges - the bigger the better. 300 books a year? Count me in! YAY! So I googled "goodreads reading challenge" and found this group.
- What's your reading goal?
150 books. I plan on making the body of easy, quick reads, and having some more challenging, slow reads sprinkled in between the easy ones.
Hello everyone! :)I am Birte, 25 y.o. and from Germany! :) I love to read. It's a chance to dive in different worlds, different characters, different lifes.
In the last years I had no free time to read, what made me really sad. But now I want to change it and my goal for this year are 80 books (sounds much, but there will be a lot of mangas ^^').
I love all kinds of stories, especially thriller, romance and history.
Also I am a huge fan of mangas.<3
Wish you a lot of joy with reading your books and I look forward to find reading inspirations in this group! <3
Hi! I'm Nora and I'm from San Francisco, but hopefully next year I'll be studying in Paris! :) I'm a big fan of fiction in general, but my comfort genre is slice-of-life and romantic comedy, and I go out of my way to find books with LGBT+ themes and/or characters. In general I adore in-depth character development, and so psychological novels or character studies are very fun for me, too.I've been meaning to get more involved with the Goodreads community because it seems that NONE of my friends have time to read or WANT to read (perfectly understandable of course, I know it's not for everyone!), and I love to discuss books and especially characters but have no one really to ramble to about them. I've loved reading my whole life, because it provides a wonderful escape from reality, and I've been hoping to steadily get back into it despite being very busy with school.
My goal for this year is 25 books! Last year I overestimated myself and tried for 60 and that was a terrible idea haha, so I'm starting slow this time. Anyway thanks for having me :)
Hi everybody! My name is Satin ( pronounces: Sat in) and I love reading!!! I was a part of the 2018 Challenge group, but I wasn’t as active as I wanted to become. Hopefully I can be very active this year! I usually read in the YA genre, but I’ll really try anything that sounds interesting. I’m looking forward to trying challenges for this year. I’m so excited to join this group!!!!
Greetings! Debra here.I recently retired after 22 years holding elected office in California - a satisfying but completely unexpected second career. It provided little time for reading that wasn't work-related, and I am making up for that now. To paraphrase Mark Twain, books, cats, so little time... I am happy to have other avid readers helping me separate wheat from chaff.
My list-toppers include history, fiction, historical fiction, science fiction, and books such as Blink and Freakonomics, which I don't know how to categorize. Japanese fiction is also a favorite, but alas, there aren't many translations, and my Japanese is only good for ordering beverages, finding a bathroom (in that order) and polite chit chat.
Happy to join you...

You are reading in Japanese? I am thoroughly impressed. Your memory must be stuffed with kanji :-p
Hi! My name is Hailee, I’m from the Pacific Northwest region of the US. I joined this group to encourage me to not only stick to my reading goal but to also interact with other people reading similar books as me or the book of the month chosen by the group. I enjoy mostly nonfiction, memoirs, and thrillers, but am open to reading just about anything. I just graduated, so I’m trying to take as much advantage of being able to read for fun as I can. My goal for the year is to read 26 books. I’m not sure if that’s a high goal or if I’ll blow it out of the water because it’s been a long time since I had time to read for fun. I’m excited regardless!
Hello. I just joined this group today as a way to see what types of books other people enjoy reading. I am currently in college and enjoy reading both historical fiction, Christian fiction, and some action/fantasy novels. My goal is to read somewhere between 5-15 books by the end of the year.

Hi I’m Lisa and I’m from Illinois. I’m in my 50s and have been reading forever. I joined Goodreads at the end of last year after deciding I was in a reading slump (lots of re-reading and looking for new authors) and joined my first challenge as a way to make myself branch out and try new things (so far very successful).I found this group after complaining on Facebook yesterday that Goodreads has taken over my life and I keep finding new challenges to join. So of course someone, helpfully, pointed me towards this group as her favorite challenge! Very helpful! Now I’m stopping- this will be the LAST challenge I join this year!
