M.N. Cox (mncox) A big hello to the many new people who’ve joined. Welcome!

Shivan, this seems like the perfect time to join in order to be ready for 2020. That’s why I’m here too. 🙂

M.N. Cox (mncox) My apologies - Shivani. I was using my phone to post my last comment and names don’t get shown in full.

Thereadingbell | 116 comments Hello I am Susanne I have been on Goodreads for a year now. I go by Marythios cause there are to many Susanne's on Goodreads and I want to find my challenges fast. I am a retired disable veteran in the United States. I have a Master's in Social Work. I love love to read and I also diamond paint to stay busy. I joined this group because I like the idea of your play on Veterans it is the first challenge I seen that does that. I know it is a play on words but still it is nice to see some attention to a fantastic group of people. I am active on Goodreads and I exceeded my reading goal for this year. I will hit 400 books plus before the year is out. I originally signed up for 100. I read just about anything and I find a way to finish books regardless. How I rate them is another thing.

message 1004: by Fiona (new)

Fiona (fiiicoooo) Hi! I am Fiona and just found the group because Jannene made me curious about the Mystery Challenge and I would really like to join this challenge :)

message 1005: by Emily (new)

Emily My name is Emily, I like to read contemporary, romance, fantasy, novels and mysteries. I found this group under popular groups and my reading goal is 15 book and I know it is low but school and sports keep me busy.

Blagica | 12958 comments Welcome everyone so happy to have you. We officially have hit 20,000 members and we are all so happy to have you join us. I hope that you enjoy your last month and a half of 2019 and I can't wait to see what you read in 2020! Lots of New challenges and new pages to turn.

message 1007: by Eszter (new)

Eszter I'm Eszter (Esther), originally from Hungary but I live in Germany since I was 7.
I love to read biographies, non-fiction, thrillers, historical fiction books and really anything about philosophy, music history and feminism.
I'm still going to school so I sadly don't always get the time for reading as much as I'd like to but I try hard to read a lot in every spare minute I have.
I'm very interested in politics and chemistry as well, I spend a lot of time reading about these topics (not necessarily books, sometimes just newspaper articles, etc.).
I'm looking forward to participating in challenges next year.
My reading goal for 2019 was 40 books, a goal which I have already achieved. Next year, I'm planning on setting a bit higher goal, maybe about 50 books.
I don't want to change my goal for this year anymore but I was just yesterday at the library and got ten books. Let's see how many I can read until the end of this year. :)

message 1008: by Fiona (new)

Fiona (fiiicoooo) Oh Eszter! Nice to see a fellow person living in Germany!

message 1009: by Eszter (new)

Eszter You're living in Germany, too? That's awesome! May I ask, in which city you live?

message 1010: by Fiona (new)

Fiona (fiiicoooo) Oldenburg and you? :)

message 1011: by Eszter (new)

Eszter A smaller city near Stuttgart. :)

message 1012: by Fiona (new)

Fiona (fiiicoooo) Nice :D

message 1013: by Shannon (new)

Shannon | 1 comments Hello everyone, I'm Shannon! I am 24 years old and I'm a college student in Illinois USA. I used to read a lot when I was younger and I've been trying really hard to get back into it. I've always loved horror, sci-fi, and fantasy but I will read anything and everything.

I always thought the best part of reading a book was when you finished it and then got to talk about it with your friends or classmates who also read the same book, but I don't really have any friends that like to read anymore and I think that this community is a good place to be. I'm looking forward to finding new interests and discussing some good reads with you all, and I wish you all good luck with your personal reading challenges!

Also to those of you in the U.S., have a happy Thanksgiving!

Marie Claude (mariecg2001) | 30 comments Hi my name is Marie Claude and am addicted to reading challenges! At least, that's my husband's opinion. But I think it's just that I like to read with a direction LOL

I live in a mid-sized city in the province of Quebec, Canada with my husband, 3 cats and a ferret. My 3 kids have left the nest, 2 of them come back for summer and Christmas time...

Looking forward to more challenges :)

message 1015: by Paul (new)

Paul (bookmaniac23) Hi! I am Paul and I am from New Orleans, Louisiana. I read constantly in middle and high school, but fell off the bandwagon a bit in college. I was a history major, so there was a lot of reading for school. I am just finishing my Master's degree and looking forward to reading again for fun!
As far as my interests, I like fantasy, sci-fi, and general fiction. I have recently tried to expand into mystery, and I finished Ragnar Jónasson's Dark Iceland series this year and absolutely loved it! I feel like I've been away from reading so long that I need to recalibrate myself and rediscover what I enjoy. I'm looking forward to joining in on some of the reading challenges and getting back into the hobby!

Blackmamah Hello!
My name is Elena, I'm from Spain and I'm new in goodreads.

I found this group when checking the entire page and I find it very interesting so, here I am! I am mostly interested in fantasy, non fictional narrative and feminist essay books, but I def want to read and know about more types. I'm working on it.
I haven't thought about my 2020 reading goal yet (I didn't set any for this past year), but I'm very excited for starting thinking about it next month!

I will be around here, trying to participate as much as I can.
Cheers!

Stephanie (_steph_) | 1 comments Hello everyone,

I'm Stephanie from southern California. I joined this group awhile ago but never introduce myself and haven't been active much. I've kinda been slacking on reading lately. I found the group looking for book clubs and group to challenge me to read more. I like to read mystery, crime, romance and some young adult. I'm hoping to just read more then I have been and be more active on here.

I adore reading!! I find when my life is hectic I read even more!!
I read any Genre, there was a stage that I read mainly Fantasy but now I am really open to anything!! I love receiving suggestions.

My goal for next year is 100 books. I did 80 this year! 4 books away from my reading goal for the year.

Next year I hope to read only 5 star books!! Hahaha Don't we all!!

message 1035: by Winnie (new)

Winnie (winniereads) Hi,

My name is Winnie and I am from Sydney, Australia. I've just graduated from my bachelor's degree and am looking forward to more time to read (hopefully!). I would like to set a 2020 goal to read at least 30 minutes everyday. I reached my goal of 12 books for 2019 so I'm looking forward to another challenge.

I have not found my genre yet. I like books that deal with love, loss, and grief, usually set in some historical context. My absolute favourite book at the moment is The Narrow Road to the Deep North by Richard Flanagan.

message 1036: by Kara (new)

Kara | 28 comments Hi Everyone!! My name is Kara and I'm from the US - more specifically - Ohio. I have always been an avid reader - as a child growing up - books were my best friends! Over the last couple of years, I've gotten away from reading and from my reading blog. I'm hoping to turn that around in 2020 and get back to my first love.

My favorite books are those about animals - either fiction or non-fiction. When I'm not delving into those books, I turn to mysteries and legal thrillers. However, I go through phases, so I've read a lot of different genres over the years and have enjoyed most everything I read.

I'm hoping to connect with people through these groups and share my love of reading, traveling and photography, get recommendations on great books, and make some new friends.

Here's to a great 2020!!!

message 1037: by Alison (new)

Alison | 1082 comments Hi All, My name is Alison and I live in Santa Fe, NM! I am rejoining this group for 2020...I got overzealous and overwhelmed with 2019 reading challenges :( I am starting 2020 with a new attitude and this group's 2020 theme and challenges look so fun!

I would like to tick off some series that I have started, join in some buddy reads, make a dent in my TBR and make some new friends!

I enjoy reading fantasy, romance, historical fiction and an occasional non-fiction. I did complete the Popsugar Reading Challenge in 2019 and some of the prompts made me pick up books I normally wouldn't have read, which I thoroughly enjoyed.

Looking forward to 2020!!

message 1038: by Micah (new)

Micah (micahrodriguez) Hi everyone, I'm Micah. :)

- Where are you from?
I'm from a little bit of everywhere but I currently live in Providence, RI and have for over 10 years.

- What kinds of books do you like to read?
Mysteries, thrillers (sometimes those two are very different, right?), fantasy, memoirs, LGBTQ authors, and all nonfiction about National Parks, nature, trees, and how-tos about how to escape into them.

- How did you find our group?
Through a friend :)

- What's your reading goal?
My 2020 reading goal is 75 books, which is hefty. I guess we'll see!

message 1044: by Moe (new)

Moe T | 2 comments Hi Everyone,
I am Moe and I am from New York City. I love reading and my current favorite genre of books is historical fiction. I have read 14 books so far for 2019. My goal is to read at least one book a month. I have been trying to find a book club/ reading group where I can find people who likes the same books as I do so that I can have fun conversations as well as get good books recommendations. I like that this group seems active enough and is organized to track your own personal reading challenges. Hoping to make literary friends here.

Leticia (leticiatoraci) | 85 comments Hi everybody,

I decided to be more active in this group next year and so I'll be doing five of next year challenges. I am Brazilian but I live in south Germany. I read mostly science fiction, fantasy and YA mixed with fantasy and sci-fi, but now and then I read other genres and nonfiction.
I usually read around 100 books per year, so let's see if I manage to be sticking to my TBRs (usually I don't...) but yeah, let's try!

message 1047: by Gabi (last edited Dec 07, 2019 01:13AM) (new)

Gabi | 62 comments Hello everybody,

I'm Gabi from Germany (rhineland part near Dusseldorf). I evolved into a reading addict over the last two years, after a reading break of a decade, and am mostly found with my nose in a Science Fiction or Fantasy book or listening to audiobooks while trying to keep up with the necessary stuff hat can't be done while holding a book in one's hand.
I totally love challenges and when I saw your group mentioned in Leticia's updates I had a peek. The global voices challenge got me excited, so now I'm here and I'm looking forward to 2020 with you.

message 1048: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Kohlbrenner Hi everyone. My name is Rachel and I just joined this group from Bucks County in Pennsylvania. This year I made a news year’s resolution to commit to reading more often instead of watching too much tv. I thought I would start small by reading a book/month, but I had forgotten how much I love to read and at the end of November 2019, I have read 100 books! I love to read all kinds of fiction including historical, literary and contemporary. I enjoy a good fantasy book, mystery and suspense and romance books too! I try to read a good variety to keep it interesting. I am excited to connect with others who enjoy reading like me!
