Katre O (asudekatreo) Hello everyone! I am Asude, 25 years old and currently living in Ankara, Turkey.

I am a foreign trade specialist and my job takes most of my time. I realize how little time I spare for reading, and I want to change it. All I need is a trigger -which will be this group-.

I am into almost any kind of books. Actually, I might still look for my favorite genre. Currently, I am reading a manga called BLAME! and enjoying it surprisingly too much. At the same time, I am reading a Christmas love story. I am open to any suggestions. Please feel free to introduce me your favorites.

I am trying to reach my goal for 2018 which is 30 books. My goal for 2019 is 70. Hopefully, I can reach it and find lots of new books thanks to you guys.

Ursula | 619 comments Hi all!

I'm Ursula, I'm 27 years old and I live in Toledo, Ohio! I have always been an avid reader but had to put it on hold a little the last 2 years since I was working on my Master's Degree in Special Education. I just graduated and am ready to have more time to read when I get home from work! I decided this year to join a book club and this group seemed like a good fit for me! My goal for 2018 was 20 book and somehow I managed 42! My goal for 2019 is going to be 50 books.

I enjoy reading historical fiction the most but I have really been on a non-fiction, self-help kick the last year or so!

Looking forward to some good recommendations and discussions!

Ilona | 4698 comments Welcome to the group, everyone! We are really glad that you joined our group and looking forward to seeing which books you'll pick for the 2019 challenge!
Happy Reading :)

message 54: by Sole (new)

Sole (fluorita) Hi everyone! I'm Soledad from Buenos Aires, Argentina.

I joined the group because I like discovering new books I'd never consider reading if someone else don't point them out, so I set to myself widening my horizons. Also, I've been going through a reading slump, so I hope this new year to have more people to discuss different views on books.

I'm not going to set myself a reading goal, as I'll be a bit busy, but I'll be thrilled if I manage to read 50 books.

I enjoy the most reading romance and fantasy (and fanfiction combining both), so please help me discover new jewels on 2019!

message 56: by Mere (new)

Mere (loreofthebooks) Hi all! My name is Meredith, but I go by Mere. I'm 26 and I live in South Carolina. I'm currently working in a library, and I love my job!

My favorite genres are fantasy, supernatural/paranormal, historical fiction, LGBTQ+, and as general as it is, some YA. I am not really fond of sci-fi at all.

My goal for 2019...is probably something like 50 right now. I know I did 250 this year, but I was sick for part of the year so I had the time. We'll see if I get even close to 250 in 2019. (I probably will. I may have to up my goal later if I find it too easy.)

message 58: by Paul Emily (last edited Dec 21, 2018 09:31AM) (new)

Paul Emily Ryan (kickbackyak) Hello! This is technically a reintroduction because while I was in the group before I took this year off due to other book-related things things, though I always knew I wanted to come back for 2019. Those other things are going to be going on for a good while longer so I'm not sure how much I'll be around, and I started a Master's degree this year which is taking up even more time, but I do definitely plan on taking part this year!

Anyway I'm Paul, I'm from Ireland, I've really honed my love for sci-fi and less straightforwardly epic fantasy this year, but I'm also into most kinds of non-fiction and more general/literary fiction too. From now on if not necessarily immediately next year I'd like to start branching out more into genres I've been neglecting, and basically keep on reading widely. At least I like to think I've been reading widely even if it doesn't always feel like it. Change is happening basically, and that's making me more willing to try things I usually don't, to see what kind of person I can feasibly be now.

OK that got pretty heavy, sorry about that, how did I find this group? Well, technically I never left so it's still in the list of My Groups, but somehow I'm not entirely sure that counts ;) Er, let's see... I don't know! You'd think I'd've mentioned why when I joined four years ago, but I didn't. Huh.

My goal for 2019 will probably be a nice roundish 101 books, but that's very conservative as I anticipate reading at least three books at all times, just like I have been this year. I think I'm going to do what I've seen other people do and add one to my goal every time I read and add something small. So like... so far this year I have it down at 331 books, but a lot of those were absolutely tiny and the average page count per book turns out to be something like 170, which is probably about right. So yes, 100 to be cautious, but I expect to smash right past that. :D

message 59: by Abin (last edited Dec 21, 2018 08:24PM) (new)

Abin Mn (abinmn) | 10 comments Hi. I am Abin, an undergrad in Computer Engineering from Kerala, India. I used to read a lot in my young ages and I lost that good habit during the past few years. I'm thinking about reading 52 books in 2019. I am a lazy person and I fear that I will drop the challenge in the middle. Hope this community would help me stay motivated.

Looking forward to an amazing reading year ahead!

message 60: by Akshey (new)

Akshey Bhavsar (lucifer7) | 10 comments I'm Akshey and I'm from very beautiful country called India.

I used to read Gujarati literature a lot when i was a child, then started reading English literature more to make myself comfortable with the language. Mythology and suspense thriller are the genre that I like to read most! Also i'm trying to read Non-fiction books as much as i read the fictions.

For 2019, my goal is to read 30 Fiction and 20 Non- fiction books. and I feel that psychologically this group will help me a lot to achieve the target.

message 61: by Jeannie (new)

Jeannie Hi! My name is Jeannie and I live in North Carolina. I am orginally from New York. My favorite book genre is Historical Fiction. I am challenging myself to read fifty two books in 2019. I found this group by browsing Goodreads. I am looking forward to being an active participant in this reading group. I hope to read and contribute to the discussions.

message 62: by Danielle (new)

Danielle | 8 comments Hi! I'm Danielle, currently living in Louisiana but hailing from NY. I enjoy reading (almost) any sort of page-turning fiction, and I also enjoy nonfiction that brings me to new places & into new worldviews. I'm a former film student who imagines the books I read as movies in my head, so I'm excited about the upcoming book-to-TV/movie theme for the upcoming year.

message 63: by Katia (new)

Katia M. Davis (katiamdavis) Hi all, I love to read, non-fiction as well as fiction. I have some weird and obscure titles under my belt. I often search Google for free reads, including things like police procedure pdfs, air crash reports from the NTSB, anything as long as I find it interesting. My favourite non-fiction topics are: writing, WWII, LGBT history, women in the military, Victorian history, disasters, archaeology (I used to be an archaeologist), geology, history of medicine. My favourite fiction genres are: horror, thrillers (particularly medical thrillers like Robin Cook), some lesfic, historical, some police procedural. I also like to read short stories.
I've managed to surpass my goal of 120 books in 2018 already. I'm up to 150 at the minute. I hope to get a few more done by the end of the year. Not yet certain of my number for 2019. My typical rule is I set the next year a little higher than the number I read the year before, so if I get 155 done by Dec 31st I will most likely set a number of 160 or 165 for 2019...although that is a lot of reading time and I have a busy year next year!
I'm looking forward to interacting with this group through the year!

message 64: by [deleted user] (new)

I just realized I hadn’t done this.

Hi! I’m from New Orleans. I’ve been a pretty keen reader all my life. My main reading interest is British and Irish modernism (Woolf, Joyce, Eliot, Forster). I read a good number of both older and modern classics, as well as current literary fiction.

Lately, I’ve been reading some historical fiction set in Victorian England, specifically books that are concerned with the fascination the Victorians had with scientific inquiry and discovery juxtaposed with myth. A couple of examples of what I mean are The Essex Serpent and The Mermaid and Mrs. Hancock. I’m looking forward to Things in Jars and Once Upon a Riverwhich seem to fit that theme. I read a good bit in translation and I like experimental fiction. Other than mysteries and thrillers, I’m not much of a genre reader, though I will read almost anything that is well-written and engaging.

My favorite authors include Jane Austen, Kazuo Ishiguro, E.M. Forster, John Banville, Salman Rushdie, Nancy Mitford, Barbara Pym, Ruth Rendell, Elizabeth George, and Ian McEwan.

I came to the group via oshizu.

message 76: by Katie (new)

Katie Kenig (katydid) | 1 comments Hi all, I’m Katie and am from a little town outside of Calgary AB, Canada, called Strathmore. I read across all genres but do have a tendency to get stuck in genre ruts. Lately it’s been domestic thrillers. Last time that happened it was dystopian fiction and joining a challenge here at GoodReads helped me break out of that. I’m here in this particular group at the suggestion of my lovely friend Jeannie, who is here somewhere too.

Glad to meet all of you!

Vanessa (nesshawk) | 39 comments Hi there! Vanessa from Maine here. I searched "2019 challenge" in groups and was excited to have found you! I just got into the reading challenges last year and I am now hooked. I have found it so fun and such a great way to keep up with my reading. I read mostly mysteries (from contemporary and classic, cozy to gritty), any short fiction, ghost stories, but LOVE to find new genres to enjoy. I crammed in 100 in half a year last year, so I want to meet and exceed that goal in 2019.

message 78: by Abi (last edited Dec 23, 2018 11:35AM) (new)

Abi (booksa144) Hi! I'm Abi, and I did this challenge last year. It's been quite cool to see a list of all of the books I read in 2018, and I can't wait to do it again!

I love to read fantasy, but I also read contemporary young adult occasionally.

I want to read 400 books in 2019, which is a large jump from what I wanted to do in 2018 (167 books) but I actually have read almost 600 books this year, insanely enough.

Happy reading!

Stacy (stacy78) | 67 comments Hi, I am Stacy from rural upstate New York. I used to be an avid reader but life happened and time for books wasn't as plentiful. I am hoping to change that in 2019!

I am planning on reading 154 books this coming year, about 3 books a week. I enjoy fantasy, sci-fi, and fiction most, I read to my 12 year old daughter so some of the books I read are Middle Grades books. I do plan on counting them in my challenges, hope that is ok.

I look forward to getting to know everyone!

Tonya Marie (tpinks315) | 30 comments Hi y'all!!! I'm Tonya, originally from Texas but newly starting over in New York and loving it! I like to read many different genres but my go-to is usually YA fantasy/paranormal fiction. I was looking for active groups that set goals - mostly because I am remiss at keeping up with mine and wanted a little accountability, even if it's just a matter of not letting you all down! My long term reading goal is 100 biographies/memoirs by the time I'm 40 (just over 4 years), but I'm looking to getting back to my avid reader status. In the past couple years, it has been a bit hard for me to pick up a book to decompress and I end up in front of the TV instead. My 2019 goal is 35 books with 20 of them being biographies/memoirs.

Thanks for adding me to the group and I look forward to our future communications!

message 87: by Trudy (new)

Trudy Harris | 3 comments Hi folks,
My name is Trudy and I am from the North Island of New Zealand. I like to read and usually have a couple of books on the go at any one time. I tend like older writers like Poe and Lovecraft and also Buchan, Haggard and the like. My favourite author though is Tolkien and have read most of his works.
I have set myself the goal of reading 25 books in 2019, I think I will manage this but I have never counted the books I have read before so I am interested to see how many I do read.

message 88: by Jennie (new)

Jennie | 6 comments Hi everyone my name’s Jen and I’m from Wales. I’m checking in to try to keep myself on track this year as the last few years have been a bit rubbish for reading. I’m committing to 24 reads this year, but I really want to try for more than this - I’m hoping to spend a lot more time unplugged this year.

I read a pretty even balance of fiction and non-fiction. I love urban fantasy and historical crime fiction, and I listen to a lot of audio books (which I plan to count in my total) while knitting and spinning.

I don’t have any specific goals beyond a target number for 2019, but I would like to get a couple of books marked off my to-be-read pile and one or two off my 1001 books challenge. Looking forward to seeing what everyone’s progress.

Happy reading in 2019 everyone.

message 89: by Bri (new)

Bri (spookyreadsbybri) Hey all,
I'm Bri. I'm from New York City.
I've been a bookworm all my life but fell off the wagon for years. I started reading and it helped me through some tough times.
For 2019, I'm challenging myself to read as much as much as possible and I've joined many yearly challenges.

My goal is to read 100 books and complete 6 yearly challenges!
I love reading mystery/thrillers, horror, and fantasy. I love exploring new genres and tend to read different genres all the time.

Good luck to everyone on their 2019 reading challenges! Happy reading!
