message 851: by Khanh (new)

Khanh Hello everyone:

My name is Khanh--say Kon, and I'm currently living in the midwest area of the United States. Reading isn't just something I love to do, it's an integral part of my life and has been for well over three decades; no matter how crazy life gets or how much I have to do, I'm reading at least one book daily, even if it's a reread. It's not unusual for me to read and multitask. My yearly reading challenge do not include rereads, and I don't fret if I don't reach my goals. :)

I read a variety of genres but my favorite are Science Fiction, fantasy, horror, children's, memoirs/biographies, and nonfiction animal books. I also like classics and am currently reading War And Peace and rereading A Christmas Carol.

I discovered this group because I was curious to see others' challenges. I'm not terribly outgoing online and in groups, so you probably won't hear much from me. But I'm always interested in what others are reading. I look forward to discovering new books with everyone.

message 852: by Laura (new)

Laura (walrus_manatee) Hi, I'm Laura and I live in London. I've always been a big reader but lost the habit for a while thanks to the distractions of the internet and Netflix. I figured joining Goodreads would help me get back into reading as I track my books, participate in challenges and get to know other bookish types.

I read mainly fiction - contemporary, thrillers, horror and chicklit mostly but also some non-fiction such as lifestyle and self-improvement.

I found this group while looking for a challenge to join to keep me motivated. I've read 7 books so far this year so have set my goal for the year as 20 but I'm hoping to exceed that. I know that once I get back in a reading groove I can get through a lot quite quickly but I do also like to reread old favourites so setting a lower goal allows me space to do that as well without stressing that I should be reading something new and trackable.

Thanks for running this group and I look forward to seeing what everyone is reading and getting to know some new people.

message 853: by Khanh (new)

Khanh Hi Laura and welcome. I'm also new to the group and new to doing any kind of group or buddy reading challenges. I'm an avid reader and my favorite genres are fantasy, horror, animal books--nonfiction and fiction--and science fiction.

I hope you have fun here.

Matthias | 3 comments Hello I'm Matthias. I'm from Orange County and I love to read. I love going to the library and checking out horror, crime, YA, biographies, and contemporary books. I found this group/Goodreads from the different booktubers I watch. I hope to beat my reading goal of 50 books this year. So far I am halfway done but I am also challenging myself to read 20,000 pages this year and I'm currently at 8,279.

message 855: by Ellessae (last edited Jun 03, 2019 10:17PM) (new)

Ellessae (ellessaescribbles) | 15 comments Hello I'm Jessica and I'm currently residing in North Carolina. I'm from Texas originally, and have lived in Oregon also.

I grew up with my nose constantly in a book, sometimes reading up to 10+ a week during summer. As I've gotten older I've slowed down my reading, and I really want to get back into it!

My main goal is 33 books this year, though I am in a FB group with a challenge to hit 52. I'm starting very late, but it's worth a shot!

I like to read a variety of books, if I read the back cover and it seems interesting I'll give it a shot. YA will always be my favorite though!

I found this group while just browsing groups to see if any seemed interesting.

message 858: by Victoria (last edited Jun 06, 2019 11:52AM) (new)

Victoria (plaguedmonk) Hi everyone! I'm Victoria and I'm from Chile. The main genres I like to read are classics/modern classics and epic fantasy. The Hobbit is the first book I remember to pick up by myself and love and by now I feel like I've read (or tried) everything there's to read in epic fantasy, a book that was assigned to me, on the other hand, and I also adored is The Martian Chronicles, I liked it so much I did some research and ended up reading what I consider an essential trinity: Fahrenheit 451, A Brave New World and 1984. Later on, I discovered Austen and the Brontës and I was enthralled. Everything I've read mostly branch out from these books.

I'm not a voracious reader but reading's always been a constant and a source of comfort in my life up until 2017, when due to personal stuff I feel like I changed as a reader. I couldn't read for months but that eventually passed. I've realised, however, that since then I became an extremely moody reader and I haven't been able to get any kind of reading rhythm back. I'm trying to gain some consistency in spite of that and I hope being here will help.

I found the group when I asked how to track the summer reading challenge and someone linked this group. I won't be doing the challenge but I loved the group, I've never participated in one so I'm excited! My goal for 2019 is 25 books.

message 859: by Khanh (new)

Khanh Welcome to fellow new members. I'm relatively new to this group too, but not to Goodreads.. I read a variety of genres, and I would be completely off-center if I don't read every day. This is a fun and diverse group so I'm sure you'll find something you like--certainly lots of good book ideas.
Happy reading!

Sabah | 75 comments Hi everyone! I’m Sabah and just recently joined the group to challenge myself to read more. I like reading different genres, but fantasy is probably my favorite. My goal for now is to read at least 12 books this year. But definitely hoping to read a bit more.

message 863: by Emily (new)

Emily Hembree (emilygrace21) | 97 comments Hey everyone! I'm Emily. I was a part of this group a few years ago, but because of college, time got away from me and I lost track of my login info as well. I'm rejoining because a group like this will definitely motivate me to read more, organize my progress, and share my thoughts on the different things I read :)

My favorite genres are YA and adult fantasy, but I'm a sucker for a contemporary or nonfiction book every now and then.

I'm approaching my senior year in college, so I won't get to read as much as I would like this year. Summertime is much more open, so I hope to read at least 15 books over the next few months.

message 865: by Rabia (new)

Rabia Khan | 6 comments Hey everyone! I'm Rabia, I'm from England but my origin is Pakistani. I love reading all kinds of stuff and a lot of the time I like not knowing anything about a book I'm about to read - I've found so many gems this way. This year I'm trying to read popular books that would usually make an appearance on '1000 books to read before you die' lists.

My goal this year is to read 52 books. I'm a little bit behind but I'm hoping I can catch-up with some summer reading :) I feel as though it's ambitious as last year I managed 23 books but I feel super motivated!

message 868: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (swimgirlrock) Hey guys! My name is Ashley. I'm a 19 year old student that has loved reading my whole life. The past couple years I haven't been as avid with my reading as I would like to be so I'm hoping joining this group will get the momentum going for me. I enjoy reading mostly fiction, but I also enjoy reading classical and realistic fiction. My to-read list is very random and growing exponentially but that's only because I come across books that spark my interest, no matter the genre. My goal was originally 24 books, then shortened to 12 books. I know the year is halfway over but I'm hoping I can do it.

Let us know if you need anything. We also take suggestions for challenges if you have the urge to be creative

message 871: by Samuel (new)

Samuel Harris (samjam48) | 2 comments Hi Everyone,

I'm Sam. I've loved reading since forever and for a long time was much better at reading than talking.
Currently, I mainly like reading non-fiction books on science, philosophy, biology, business, success, personal growth, history, and autobiographies.
But I also love science fiction or reading any sort of book related to a country I'm travelling in.

So far this year I've 60 books and about 10 were fiction. not going to have so much free time the rest of this year so hoping to get another 30 read.

I'm keen to open up my viewpoints and as a male vegetarian, eco-conscious, millennial, scientist and tech entrepreneur I read a lot of stuff that aligns with that. Would be interested to try something written for women or ethnicities that you feel are books that all white guys should know about.

message 872: by Micaela (new)

Micaela | 1 comments Hello everybody!

My name is Micaela, and I live in Florida. I’ve always been an avid reader, but the past year I unfortunately fell off the reading wagon. I’m finally getting back in to reading, and so happy I’m doing so! I’m currently loving fantasies, especially fairytale retellings.

My current goal for 2019 is to read at least 20 books, but I’m off to a good start so far and hoping to read plenty more than that!

message 873: by Jay (new)

Jay | 2 comments Hi everyone, I'm Jay.
I created my account last March 2013. Unfortunately, I wasn't active. I just browse to the books and tried to passively read to my collection which I never finished.
I like to join this group to motivate me to further push myself to read. My goal is to finish 25 books for 2019. Starting slow then hopefully can challenge myself more.

message 874: by Kiandra (new)

Kiandra Halstead | 37 comments Hello everyone! My name is Kiandra aka Kiki(I prefer Kiki). I found this group between the 5th and 6th of this month while trying to remember how search for groups. I'm from United States and I've yet to 'claim' a place as 'home' to me. I've been in a slump for months and longer before this year started but am reading despite that. My goal is to try and read 50 books(physical and ebook form) this year and I read anything and everything I can get my hands on. I'm trying to figure out all the genres as I don't have any ones in particular I like more than whatever others there are. Not sure at this time if I'm done but I'll leave it here. I hope that everyone's doing okay and will catch you all later!

message 875: by Kiandra (new)

Kiandra Halstead | 37 comments Book recommendations from anyone that has any will be welcomed. :-D

message 876: by Blagica , Challenges (new)

Blagica | 12958 comments Welcome everyone! Sam it looks like you have an elastic genre of reading. I can't tell you what white guys should be reading since everyone has there own tastes with books. I loved Becoming by the former first lady. Micaela welcome 20 books is a great goal. Do you have a fantasy writer that you love? Jay there is tons of things to do in this group that should keep you motivated and tons of friends to make and that should keep you motivated. Kiki welcome to you as well! I think the best way to find a book you love is to give each genre a chance by loving your library or a book store. For myself I love Thrillers and Mysteries but i love memories as well. Take some time to find what you love or just be random and have FUN. Welcome to all and happy reading!!!!!!!!!!!

message 877: by Antonella (new)

Antonella | 5 comments I guess is not too late to start the 2019 challenge? My name is Antonella, I have 24 years old and I am from Ecuador.

I am studying Mechanical Engineering in South Korea but came back a few months ago to my country because my dad passed away.
I would really like to reset my mind, I have been too sad...Or tired to pretend things are fine after the loss of my father. So if someone could help me with any good books related to motivation, inspiration or something related to find that spark to slowly process this pain, I will be very grateful.

I haven't read books in a whileee (more than 6 months), but if I did, I usually liked the criminal fiction ones (Sherlock Holmes, The Girl the Dragon Tattoo) or books related to science such as Astrophysics for People in a Hurry.

So anyway, I will start slowly and maybe just challenge myself with 5 books until the end of this year. I'm glad to have find this group~

message 881: by Tamatha (new)

Tamatha Lewis | 1 comments Hello Group! My name is Tammy

I'm from NW Indiana, and I pretty much read anything but stick to mostly fiction and romance. Lately I've been reading True Crime and Fantasy.

Stumbled on this group while looking for groups to join. and y'all looked like fun. ;)

My goal is 60 books this year and I'm a little over half way there.

message 882: by Atetuna (new)

Atetuna | 1 comments Hello group! I'm in the US and move around a lot, so I'll leave it at that. I read for entertainment more than anything. It's better than watching television, right? I enjoy military, legal and law enforcement thrillers, science fiction, historical fiction, dystopia, fantasy and books that touch on tech, politics and cultural perspectives. Occasionally literary classics, biographies and nonfiction will slip into my reading queue. I'm also a big fan of a long series, although I've stepped back from that lately to whittle down my "to read" list.

My standard reading challenge is 52/year, but a few days ago I decided to try beating my 142/year record. I'm at 97 books at the halfway point, so it's looking good even if I have a couple slacker months.

Kathy Changeux | 6 comments Hi all, my name is Kathy and I'm coming to you from Boulder, Colorado. Thanks for welcoming me to the group, I look forward to hearing what you're all reading and enjoying (or not, also good to know)!
My goal is to commit to finishing the stacks of books I have strewn around my shelves before I buy any new ones!

I favor fiction, memoirs, literature (especially anything Russian), history, spirituality, biography, thrillers...but I relish anything well-written and admire a well-researched tome.

message 885: by Reem (new)

Reem (reem_emad) Hello everyone!!
I'm Reem from Sudan. I'm 18. Since i was a kid, i really liked reading books and diving in each one. I don't have a specific favourite type, but i prefer books that broadens my understanding of life and the different prespectives that people have. I also love playing the piano♡
My goal this year is 40. I hope to be able to complete it :) So glad to be with you...

Happy reading.

message 887: by Noah (new)

Noah (readtilldeathdoipart) | 7 comments Hello! I'm Madi, and I'm from New England. My favorite books are probably high fantasy, contemporary novels, dystopian/totalitarian society-themed books, and classics. I found your group by browsing the "Community" tab (I joined GoodReads probably about a year ago, but this is the first year where I've actually used and explored GoodReads frequently), and I thought that a group around my 2019 reading goals would be a great source of motivation and information on what other people read. My goal is to read 30+ books in half a year (which is why I'm only joining this group now), and so far I am about 13% done! I hope to have a good reading year!

Jade (jadevilla) | 2 comments Hey all!

My name is Jade and I'm from Michigan. I wanted to find a group of book lovers such as myself and I'm super happy to be a part of a group with such variety!

I enjoy reading all types of fictions with some non-fiction sprinkled in and I'm hoping to read 25+ books for 2019!

message 890: by Laura (new)

Laura Latini Hi All! I joined back in January but never really started posting to the challenge. I'm ready to start. I'm from Pittsburgh, PA and I'm so happy to have found Goodreads and other people who love reading as much as I do.

I enjoy all types of books but tend to read a lot of Mystery/Thrillers, Historical Fiction, and Political Nonfiction, as well as some feminist specific texts. My goal is to hit 85 books this year.

message 891: by Julie (JuJu) (new)

Julie (JuJu) (jlb27) Hello...I’m Julie! I live in the beautiful mountain town of Woodland Park, CO. I read mainly Thrillers/Suspense. Love the psychologically twisted ones!

Most of my reads are ARC’s from Netgalley and Edelweiss. My goal is 100 books this year and I’m ahead of schedule, so I should be able to complete it.

I have enjoyed making friends on GR’s and joining in Buddy and Group Reads!

message 892: by Sankalpana (new)

Sankalpana (littlewoman21) Hey fellow readers, I'm Sankalpana from New Delhi, India. This group recently popped up in my recommendations, and since I've been struggling to get some reading done the past couple of weeks I decided to join.

I have started reading non-fiction since the past 1.5 years, and for now I'm just trying to play catch-up with all the amazing and popular ones. As I progress, I hope to discover more specific interests.

My motivation for joining this group is : A) To stay motivated to read. I have a goal of 33 books for the year (but I hope to read more) and I'm currently at 16 I think. B) To discover new books and interesting discussions.

:)

Maggie the Muskoka Library Mouse (mcurry1990) Hello there! I may have introduced myself already, but I'm trying to become more active. :) My name is Maggie, and I'm a librarian mom of two from Muskoka. I have loved books for as long as I can remember, and my day just isn't complete without reading a chapter or three! Besides devouring a good book, my hobbies include singing, hiking, writing, and baking. I don't have a favourite genre, but I do tend to finish novels with some family drama quicker. ;) I look forward to making new friends and getting some excellent recommendations. My goal for 2019 is to read 85 books.

Gabby (gabbing_gabbs) Hello,

My name is Gabby and I'm from CA!
I'm into contemporary (both Adult & YA) as well as the classics. I haven't ventured into fantasy but science fiction is not my vibe.

My goal is to finish at least one book per month (12 books total) which seems small, but trying to adjust to adult life is realistic.

I found the group on a whim and happy to join a group where I can read what I want

I’ve always loved reading and I’m always interested in what people are reading and what’s on their bookshelves.

Kenza (k-reads) Hello everyone!
I am new to this group. I like reading all kind of books, mostly fiction.
I hope the group helps me organize my reading routine. I have been a huge bookworm since my childhood but starting from High School, I read less and less every year. I am now in my second UNI year that ends in less than 10 days (Finally haha!) and I can't wait to read more.
I would love to reach my 2019 goal which is 30 books.

message 900: by Catana (new)

Catana Catana here, from somewhere or other. (I'm a very anonymous person.) I dropped Goodreads for a couple of years, and came back early this year. Decided to enter the challenge mostly out of curiosity about how much I actually read. I'm pretty sure it's more than 100 books a year, but thought I'd start off easy, with a goal of 60. I upped it to 75, but I might just as well go whole hog and 100. Most of my reading is research for a couple of nonfiction books, but plenty of fiction too, for relaxation.
