message 603: by USNCBSLIXX (last edited Feb 22, 2019 05:22PM) (new)

USNCBSLIXX | 1 comments Well, I guess I will jump right in. My name is Rick and I am a vociferous reader. I have read over 400 books in the last 3 yrs and would like to read another 150 this year. So far I am 2 books ahead of schedule. I didn't join this group to get help reading, I just hope to maybe meet some other readers, on a social plane. I am retired, live with my son, who works nights, so my social interaction is very limited.
I love to talk about the characters I follow. I am a series oriented reader, If I like a book, I search out all of those in that series and read them in order. I feel closer to the main character(s) that way.
Anyways, hope to be an active part of the group. :)

My name is Rosanna. I am from Texas. I enjoy reading Sci-fi / Fantasy mostly, but I'll pick up from a lot of different genres. I'm a bit late for this years group. But luckily I have read Ready Player One. I plan to reread it and catch up though.

I want to read 52 books this year. I thought I'd join a group to find new reading friends. Nice to meet you all!

message 612: by Cornelius (new)

Cornelius (denzildk) Hi, my name is Cornelius, i'm a software university student from denmark.

I mostly read heavy IT/software books for my studies, learning all about the inner works of pc's and alot of math (soo much math), but besides that i'm also reading some self help type books as i'm at the age where i need to figure out "how to: life" and when i have the spare briain power and energy i am slowly making progress in H. P. Lovecrafts complete works, which is a great bunch of interesting and spooky stories, but god damn is the writing old-school and covoluted.
I also spent some traveling time reading manga, but i dont realy consider that full on reading.

I found this group in the suggested groups section, and joined because it looked interesting. It would also be neat to find someone to read a book with through here.

Ximena I’m Ximena, I’m from Mexico and I’m studing economics.
I used to read a lot for pleasure, but school got in the way, so this year my goal is to read 24 books, maybe I can get the habit back.

I found this group at the suggestions and I’m glad I this because I’m hoping to find friends who enjoy reading as much as I do.

I mostly like novels and story compilations, but lately I’ve been trying to spicy it up a little by trying new genres.

message 615: by Blagica , Challenges (new)

Blagica | 12958 comments Ximena, welcome to the group! I am sure 24 will be a blast for you here there is lots to do and many people who love books you are in great company.

message 616: by Rishika (new)

Rishika Aggarwal | 7 comments Hey guys! I'm Rishika, from India. I'll read just about any form of fiction, truth be told, though I'm on a mystery binge right now, and I tend to go on genre binges while reading?

I found this group through a friend's comment here, and I followed it to the group :P I just updated my goal from 75 books this year to 150, because I'm going through mysteries faster than I expected? But my personal goal is to make a significant dent in my physical TBR collection, but given I'm stuck on e-books rn, let's see how that goes!

And I am currently reading The Outsider by Stephen King.
As you can see, I am versatile. I love recommendations, so please feel free to let me know what you are reading anytime! I look forward to our discussions and participating in the group! Have a great day!

message 628: by Christian (last edited Mar 05, 2019 06:29AM) (new)

Christian | 2 comments Hi! I’m Christian, from Norfolk, VA. I joined Goodreads about 2 months ago, and have recently gotten back into reading regularly after roughly 10 years of not making time for it (“all work and no play...”) I read science fiction and techno-thrillers mostly, preferably with romance subplots mixed in. I also read a lot of manga - again sci-fi/thriller with romance mixed in (seinen/josei/shoujo in Japanese categories. Shonen manga is overrated!)

My brother works at the local library so I have absolutely been taking advantage of that (“I’m looking for this book, do you have it?” “Can you process these holds for me?” “No, I can’t show up to pick these books up, you know I work 2 cities away in the opposite direction!”) and I read a lot of ebooks during work breaks and doctors appointments. I found this group while looking at groups to join, since now I’ve developed an urge to talk to some, anyone about what I’ve just finished reading! I’m aiming for 52 books read this year, and I’m already at 32. Maybe I should slow down a bit...

message 629: by Mark (new)

Mark Hi everyone!

My name is Marko and I am from Germany but I live in Asia.

I love to read non-fiction, science-fiction, fantasy, and anything else that's rattling my mental cage.

Last year, I've read 64 books but this year I'm aiming for only 48 because I like to slow it down to digest books more deeply.

message 630: by Cassidy (new)

Cassidy | 1 comments Hello!

My name is Cassidy and I am living in Pennsylvania for college. I am actually from Massachusetts.

I absolutely love anything to do with psychology and psychological themes (as my major is counseling/psychology) and that can be anywhere from memoirs to textbooks to psychological horror.

I plan to read 50 books this year. Hopefully I will make that goal but it would be something I am proud of if I do.

message 633: by Kavena (new)

Kavena | 1 comments Hi everyone, my name is Kavena and I am the Bay Area, California. I used to read alot in the past but life took over and most of my readings were work related. This year I want to get back into the groove of reading and I am open to all types.

My goal for this year is one book a month. I am looking forward to joining you all in discussions!

message 634: by Lilja (new)

Lilja (l1lja) Hey everybody, I'm Lilja!
I'm also joining a bit late but oh well, it's never too late to talk about books, right?
This year my goal is to read 30 books, since I want to get back into reading and have found a million new books just begging for my attention! I especially like fantasy and scifi, and have been reading a lot of Star Trek novels recently. I am open to other genres as well, of course.
Nice to meet all of you!

message 635: by Taran (last edited Mar 06, 2019 10:52AM) (new)

Taran (art_in_the_blood) Hi everyone! I just joined the group, I'm in Canada, and I'm looking forward to some great discussions and motivation to read outside my comfort zone in the company of fellow bibliophiles. :)

My goal for this year is 30 books, and I'm apparently 4 ahead of schedule. Three of my reads may or may not count (two plays and a coffee table type book), so I'll have to read What Do You Consider a Book? and Should I Count It? I love reading and realized last year how much it benefits me to make it a priority. I'm hoping to exceed my goal this year.

As for my tastes, I have a wide range of interests and have read at least something in most genres. Off the top of my head, I enjoy fiction with an element of science (think Crichton), memoirs, neurosciency stuff (think Sacks), animal stories (think The Art of Racing in the Rain), mindfulness, random topics I'm curious about (see Seize the Daylight: The Curious and Contentious Story of Daylight Saving Time), and pretty much anything else that piques my interest at a given time.

My current mission is to read more award-winning or significant fiction, and I'm going through 1,000 Books to Read Before You Die: A Life-Changing List for inspiration.

Some books I've read recently:
- My Dog Tulip
- Fun Home: A Family Tragicomic
- The Sweet Hereafter
- The Ocean at the End of the Lane
- Indian Horse
- Educated
- The 7½ Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle

Looking forward to some fun discussions and reading challenges!

Tara

I used to read mostly non fiction but found since the last election I've been really needing fiction as an escape. A few I've read recently:
7 1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle, Where The Crawdads Sing, Us Against You. Currently debating whether to start Less or The Silent Patient next. I'm open to recommendations!

My goal is to read at least a book a month and I am always looking for good meaningful books to read. Let me know what you guys' favorite books are!!
