Jannene | 3124 comments Cherie, I haven’t asked yet. I figured I would post and she could deny it. I think that she looks over the tasks and books. I used the tool as far as looking at the definition but not the books listed. So, we shall see if I am good then you are too. ;)

I looked, and debated. One of the lists on the "realistic fiction" genre page was a mystery list. I personally don't consider the mystery genre to be realistic fiction, but the existence of the list on the genre page and Jannene's explanation swayed me.

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I guess you are a bigger risk taker than I am, Jannene. :0)

You wanted to read the book anyway, so it is no huge loss if it does not qualify. If the reason for the book fitting makes sense, Janice is usually pretty accommodating. She expects us to be reasonable and we expect her to be fair. I love that part of our YLTO challenges.

I look at what people are posting and I don't think anyone is trying to get by with anything outright. I think most people are just more concerned with getting prior approval vs. disqualification after the fact. Not all of us see the same book in the same light either.

I know that I looked at the definition for the task, but maybe I used the wrong list to see what books would qualify. I will look again.

I had a list of several potential books, but chose SttS after it was chosen as a group read. Most of the people that read it applied it to being published in 2016.

I got I know a Secret from the library today.

I did not start reading it last night. I watched a movie with my granddaughter and fell asleep in the chair.

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I haven't read any Harry Bosch. Are you reading the series?

message 111: by Jannene (new)

Jannene | 3124 comments I finished the series. I LOVE THEM!! Unlike Harry Hole this Harry isn’t that flawed to the point that he upsets you. The books are so well written and I just adore how Harry has this saying “Everybody counts or no one counts.” He’s like a dog after a bone and will not give up on the case.

Prime has the Harry Bosch TV show. It also is good but the show doesn’t follow the books true to the story. I always look forward to the next series.

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Good to know about Harry B. That's a lot of books, but if it is good, what does it matter?

I am reading G.B,G. Ready to go home, but I am waiting for someone to signoff on something before I can leave. The "old people" are climbing up the hill to the quarry fence. oh...

message 114: by Jannene (new)

Jannene | 3124 comments I don’t think there is a bad book in that series. It just seems to get better and better. It isn’t like a lot of series where it gets stale which is precisely why I continue to read it.

OML Cherie, I cannot believ you have not read Bosch. I always imagined you had. I think you would love him. He is a hard boiled detective reminiscent of Sam Spade,

I love the way the author weaves the chars from his other series though the books. I would start with the authors oldest and read all hi book right through

I am sure I will get to him one day, Renee. I loved Sam Spade, and still have the Raymond Chandler books to read.

It was okay. I couldn’t follow some of the stuff Holmes did. Watson basically had to spell it out all the time. In the end, it was ok I suppose. It has violence against children that I didn’t know going into it.
