Ok ok. So I think I’ve probably read this in the last 5 years. The main character is a young girl maybe 16ish. And there’s a series of challenges that the students have to complete. And the first challenge is a ball of Christmas lights and their task is to remove all the lights and put them in a box. And some people were too focused on untying the ball of lights and so they weren’t able to finish. But the main character removed all of her lights and was able to move on to another task. I also think the next task involved an elevator. And they had to say something true to make it stop.

Are there fantasy elements? Why type of skills did the students use for these challenges?
Removing the lights was difficult because they were in this large ball that was tangled so most kids spent time untangling the ball rather than just moving the lights. No fantasy elements that I can remember.
The “prize” for this was moving on to the next stage. I forget what was at the...wait...the kids were young hopefuls for something like nasa. These series of tests were proving who would be the intern.
