Kelly | 4 comments Literary fiction or possibly mystery. This is a minor plot point or even an aside in a book I've read sometime in the past ten years. I can't remember anything else about the book, so I don't know how it fits in with the rest of the plot. When the narrator is a young boy his mother is waiting on a train platform (in England, I think, but possibly in America) and someone jumps off the train before it comes to a complete stop, knocks her over, and she hits her head and dies. I think the passage about this starts off with something along the lines of "There is always a certain type of person who cannot wait for the train to stop completely but must show his bravado by jumping off onto the platform..." After his mother's death I think the narrator and his father live in sort of detached bachelor solitude. I think the book is set in the first half of the 20th century, and possibly was written in this era too, but I could be wrong about that.

You can "bump" your thread every month or so. This pushes your thread back to the top of the folder instead of languishing here on page 53 where fewer eyes will see it.
You can do this by typing a new comment at the end of the thread, or even by typing the word "bump."
Good luck!
