SERIAL READER CHALLENGEDuration: January 1 – December 31, 2019
I just saw this! (August 9) I will guess that I can read 20 books within a series for this year! (I originally only thought 10, but then once I had added those I've already read this year, I had a total of 15! I sure hope I get to at least 5 more before 2020! Reached 21 as of September 30, so will increase it to 25!
25/25 as of November 7
DONE! Unless I get time to read some more of these prior to the end of 2019!
✔️1) The Reading Circle
This was the 2nd book in the series that I happened upon for $.50 at the local library book sale. I liked it. Not my absolute favorite series, but I think these would work for my book club.
✔️2) The Dry
Excellent. A bit grisly, but I could handle it. I own the second one in the series.
✔️3) An Absolutely Remarkable Thing
I LOVED this! It is his debut novel, but he is already writing the second in the series.
✔️4) Chocolat
This is the first in the series and I definitely plan to read them all. I own the next two.
✔️5) Beartown
I love anything this man writes. I own the second book in the series and hope to read it yet this year!
✔️6) Call Me By Your Name
This is supposedly the first in a series. I LOVED this book! So very poignant and felt so genuine and real!
✔️7) The Dog Who Knew Too Much
This is the 4th book in Spencer Quinn's Chet and Bernie series! I love this series! Chet is the bomb!
✔️8) One Crazy Summer
This book... Everyone should read it, IMHO! I love these kids and am anxious to continue beyond this first installment. Also a great look at history!
✔️9) Emlyn's Moon
This is the second installment in Jenny Nimmo's Snow Spider series that I happened on for $.50 at the library book sale. It was okay. I doubt I'll read others.
✔️10) Artemis Fowl
This is the first book in this series. I liked it more than I thought I might. The ending truly made me want to read more in the series. But not until I had reached the end!
✔️11) Butterflies, Flowers, Vol. 2
This is the second in the series and the ONLY reason I read it was for a challenge. I always assumed I would not enjoy manga. And I don't.
✔️12) The Calculating Stars
I loved loved loved this book! I own the second one and hope to get to it before year's end.
✔️13) The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet (Wayfarers #1)
I LOVED this book!
✔️14) A Closed and Common Orbit (Wayfarers #2)
I LOVED it!
✔️15) Record of a Spaceborn Few (Wayfarers #3) I LOVED it! This is technically a trilogy now, but I really hope she writes more in this series!
✔️16) Them Bones
I love this series. It is not particularly intellectually stimulating, but it is something I truly enjoy. I own all but 6-7 in the series and hope to read at least several more before year's end.
✔️17) Nate the Great and the Stolen Base
Such a great series for kids! Really made me nostalgic for all those books I read to my children!
✔️18) The Handmaid's Tale
First in a series for which the second installment, The Testaments, was just released. I'll plan to read it, but not sure when...no big rush.
✔️19) A High-End Finish
First in Carlisle's Fixer-Upper Mystery series. I really enjoyed it! I will definitely continue this series and then plan to also check out her Bibliophile Mystery series as well! YAY! A new author and yet another series!
✔️20) The Limpopo Academy of Private Detection (The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency #13)
It has been quite awhile since I read one of the #1 Ladies' Detective Agency books and I am always so impressed by these books! Just simple enjoyment with a good mystery... :)
✔️21) The Minor Adjustment Beauty Salon (The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency #14)
Another good one! :)
✔️22) The Kiss Quotient (The Kiss Quotient #1) by Helen Hoang. Excellent!
✔️23) Treasures of the Forgotten City (Ultimate Ending #1) by Danny McAleese and David Kristoph
A "choose-your-own-adventure" read. My first. And it was truly enjoyable!
✔️24) Binti by Nnedi Okorafor
This was so good! I would have appreciated it being a bit more fleshed out with more detail, but an excellent read as is! Anxious to read the other two in this trilogy!
✔️25) Steel Magic (The Magic Series #1) by Andre Norton (Who was actually a female) This book was published in 1965. I'm guessing that is one big reason a female author adopted a male pseudonym. She was prolific and there are more books in this one series which I will investigate, mainly for my grandchildren. I think this would definitely appeal to children. I particularly appreciated that each of the three siblings had to overcome individual challenges all on their own to overcome the evil ones!
Another update to message 24: managed to finish 2 short books today which count towards this challenge. My total read is now 32/40
updated until message 836! Welcome Lynn! I want to take a minute to thank oshizu she helped me do my update for August and I couldn't be more greatful!
18 done!I have more to read, but I am not increasing my goal.
Murder, Interrupted (#1)
Home Sweet Murder (#2)
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (#4)
Just started another new series - The Governess Affair by Courtney Milan. My first Courtney Milan, and I enjoyed it. Interesting characters, good plot, and she addressed some real issues - not just fluff. Worth reading! 4 stars29/20
Just started another series - Stillhouse Lake by Rachel Caine. I really enjoyed this book! It's the serial killer trope told from an entirely different perspective. I really enjoyed the characters and the progression of the story. My only critique was that it was a bit repetitive in the narrator's inner monologue. Definitely worth reading! 4.5 stars30/20
Just finished the second book in the Stillhouse Lake series - Killman Creek by Rachel Caine. Really good second chapter in this story. I didn't quite like it as much as the first, but it's still really good and had me in suspense the entire time. Definitely worth reading! 4 stars31/20
Just completed the latest book in the Red Rising series - Dark Age by Pierce Brown. Good lord, Pierce Brown, how many times will you rip out my heart in your books, only to piece it together again with scotch tape and hope? Another beautifully and brutally told book about the best and worst in humans and society. At least I've learned after five books that nothing in this universe will ever go as planned. Definitely worth reading! 4.5 stars32/20
