Lauren Strange | 4 comments FANTASY BOOK. I read this book some point in the 2000s, I think it's part of a series, but I only read the first one.

What I can remember:
A guy (maybe called Jack) is in a motorcycle crash and is transported to another world.

He meets someone (maybe an ogre) who is a trainee blacksmith, who rescues him when someone tries to buy him. He has to transport some armor to a king (and I think it gets stolen).

Jack teaches the ogre about treating iron with carbon to make steel, and the ogre gets in a fight with the new sword and cuts the iron sword in half.

There is a girl who is a prisoner of the big bad. They rescue her and Jack fancies her. I think she had a chastity belt and ended up in that world when she fell from a tower. They remove her chastity belt.

They escape and the bad guy can track them because it snowed.

Jack has a run in with a goblin(?) who traps him in his house to keep as a slave. Jack tries to trick him into eating poisonous mushroom by putting it in a sandwich, but the goblin realises. He then throws the mushroom into the goblins mouth and he chokes on it. Jack looks for the key and realises that he hasn't looked in the goblin's shoes. The key was the goblin's toenail.

I think the book ends with them sitting around a campfire and some pixies or something flirting with Jack. The girl gets jealous.

Lauren Strange | 4 comments Still looking, but I've remembered a bit more.

A tree asks the main character to climb him because he has a nest stuck in his branches. He is about to do so, but is stopped and told that the tree was going to shake him from his branches and kill him because it hates humans for cutting down them down.

Please help! I think I might have imagined the whole thing.

Thanks for the update, Lauren. I moved your request back to the "Unsolved" folder. Just to confirm, is this book for adults or teens (which is YA in this group)?

Capn | 3506 comments Anything on the Blacksmiths in Fiction list sound right?
https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/1...

There's also a list for sentient trees: https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/9...

I had a few stabs at keyword searching on OpenLibrary, but didn't come up with it. Maybe you'll have better luck?
https://openlibrary.org/ (search bar: Text, then specific terms in quotes, like "chastity belt", "mushroom", "sandwich", etc.)
