SOLVED. YA/Childrens book about white boy and Inuit/native Alaskan/Eskimo girl [s]

My gran bought this for me in about 1989 or so, I dont know if I ever finished it tbh. All I recall is that there was a young white boy, probably about 13 - I think he was called Rafe, and he was with what I feel strongly was an Inuit girl of about his age. She fed him suet. Im pretty sure the book was written in the 80s, but think that it was set in the late 1800s or early 1900s. The boys father was possibly a hunter or trapper. Presumably set in Canada or North America
