Beartown by Frederik Backman is set in March.

☕️Hélène⚜️ (pawstoodream) Shannon! Here are some books set in a season
G.M. Malliet and Mons Kallentoft both are good!

I just borrowed "Full Wolf Moon" and since we have a full wolf moon right NOW, I'm going to count it for this category! (Assuming I don't DNF)

Megan | 361 comments Technically, it doesn’t say the *four* seasons, just the *season* it’s set in, so.....

Baseball season: March 20- September 29.
Hurricane season: Jun 1, 2019 – Sat, Nov 30
Football season: September 5-Feb 2

I've note long finished this! Hopefully you will enjoy it as much as I did.

message 114: by Cristin (new)

Cristin | 25 comments I read Once Upon a Winter's Night intending to use it here. While the first part is very much set in winter, the rest of the book is not so much. I'll keep it here for now, since I did read all of it, and just keep my eye out for something to swap in later maybe.

message 115: by Hilary (new)

Hilary | 32 comments I'm getting a little creative (bending the rules?) and reading Endurance: Shackleton's Incredible Voyage right now. This book obviously makes note of the weather numerous times and given that we're in the middle of a pretty brutal winter, it feels acceptable to count it toward this challenge.

I think it should count! To me the point of this prompt is matching weather (at least somewhat) in your life and the book.

Yup! it ends end of August / early September when school starts. But yeah. Its over summer vacation

I am looking for something that takes place in the fall, here in Quebec fall is so pretty with all the leaves changing colors and such and its most def. my favorite season. But if I cant find annything i'll go with a beach story this summer!

Several of these are YA or middle grade, but I enjoyed them:

The Plastic Magician

The Mutual Admiration Society

The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl: Squirrel Meets World

Death Be Not Proud (Short story/novella)

message 119: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (sezziy) | 901 comments Why would you call a book The Winter of the Witch and then have it take place in summer? This completely scuppers my plans! Back to the drawing board for this prompt, haha!

Side note for anyone who's read the first two books: this one is living up to it's predecessors. I'm really enjoying being back in Vasya's world.

I know! I kept waiting for the seasons to move along, for it to be winter but I'm 3/4's of the way through the book and it is still summer.

I was going to use it for "related to cold" in AtY, too, so I'm doubly confuddled now.

message 124: by Jane (new)

Jane (juniperlake) | 54 comments The Constant Reader book group read a book called We Die Alone in January. It's a true story written and then revised by a man who survived a Nazi attack while trying to escape along with some other men. He endured an avalanche, frost bite and managed to make it to safety and was taken helped him heal. I have it, but haven't read it yet. Apparently, reading it affected everyone physically. Not only because of the severity of his condition but because of the severity of the cold and snow. Definitely a winter book.

This is so clever. How about Oscar season, hunting season, Christmas season. I guess if you chose one of those, the book should be related to the topic of the season.

I just read Bad Boy Brawly Brown and to my surprise and delight it was set in February! Of course February in LA is not February in northern NY, but the category doesn't say to read a book in the weather you are experiencing, just the same season, aka same time of year. Done.

message 128: by Anne (new)

Anne (annefullercoxnet) | 204 comments I just read a cozy mystery that takes place in February, but that really doesn't come in at all. Does it count for this prompt if the only way you know it is February is because they mention it once?

message 129: by Nadine in NY (new)

Nadine in NY Jones | 9687 comments Mod
It counted for me! If the author chooses to actually mention the date, then the date is important enough to qualify the book for this prompt, in my mind.

Yeah, of course it would count! There's nothing in the prompt to say that the book has to be super seasonal.

Depending on how you classify September, it can work for fall too.
Also, I LOVED that book. The kindness of people is amazing.

Brittany | 187 comments I'd like to find a historically accurate story of the first Thanksgiving for this prompt. Does anyone have any good suggestions? I'm not finding a ton of good resources and the one book that did sound decent I realized was a 48 page kids picture book. That's alright but not quite what I had in mind.

I googled that for you and found several options. Just google "historically accurate story of thanksgiving books".

weirdly enough, the book was set in summer and a little bit of fall, but also she visits winter? I had planned this book for the seasons prompt but after reading it decided that it didn't count. still a great book though!

Thanks, Megan!

I actually fell down the rabbit-hole of google myself. :) It seems like most of the books on this topic are aimed towards children/students and I guess I was envisioning a longer book with more detailed coverage. I have found some excellent essays and websites which touch on the topic though! I think I'll probably have better luck looking for a book that covers Native American history as a whole, rather than on this one particular event and will pick something else for this prompt.

Heather L (wordtrix) | 780 comments I recently finished Winter Chill by Joanne Fluke for this one, for anyone who likes thrillers.

Would also fit prompts for a book seen read on TV, a two-word title, and a book about a family.

Vonda Masters | 3 comments Anybody who reads the J.D. Robb “In Death” series can use the latest entry https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/4... for this prompt right now. It’s set in March and Eve comments that she never knows if it’s late winter or early spring.

I'm reading The Westing Game right now for "puzzle or game" and it starts in the fall (Halloween is mentioned) then takes place in winter (they are all snowed in). I'm only halfway through so I don't know if it concludes during winter or if it stretches into spring.

CORRECTION: the book takes place from September through November. At the end they are specific about dates. They were snowed in during November.

I have it on my 'winter weather' shelf, so at least the majority of it should take take place in winter. Can't really remember to narrow it down to specific months or anything though.

Thegirlintheafternoon In a complete coincidence, I picked up The Shell Seekers on the last day of February - a very cold, gray day - and found that the book begins on a cold, gray, late February day. A beautiful read.
