Time Bomb is new this year- it takes place in a day. It is a lot like This Is Where It Ends, so if you liked that...

Stephen | 32 comments Stina wrote: "Does All You Need Is Kill work for this?"

I don't think so. I believe the time loop the characters are stuck in covers 2 days.

Raquel (Silver Valkyrie Reads) | 896 comments The Mutual Admiration Society

I just finished this one, and recommend it if you like precocious 11 year old girls solving mysteries. (Though be aware, the similarities to Flavia De Luce end there, so it's not a solid "If you like this, you'll love that" recommendation.) The last chapter that wraps up some details does take place a couple days later, but all the main action takes place in less than 24 hours.

Kym Hamer (kymhamer) | 157 comments Doesn't Dan Brown's Angels & Demons occur in a day?

message 56: by Juliebean (new)

Juliebean (juliebean512) | 145 comments Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass would both count for this. And through a technicality, pretty much all of the Narnia books too. :)

Joymhb | 5 comments Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day

message 58: by Ian (new)

Ian (iansreads) Kym - I think most of those books take place in a day

Thank you that is what I am going to read!

Ruth Lanton (ruthla8) | 178 comments Trinity wrote: "I think Thirteen Reasons Why may work for this if memory serves."

Yes. The frame story takes place in less than 24 hours, but the story told on the tapes themselves covers at least a few months, if not years.

message 61: by Theresa (new)

Theresa | 2382 comments The House in Paris - takes place over one day. I was doing some organizing of my Want To Read list...which is huge...and spotted this.

message 62: by Anna (last edited Dec 05, 2018 12:08PM) (new)

Anna | 71 comments Would the book No Exit work for this prompt? One of the reviews mentioned that the story all takes place within 24 hours. However, the 24 hours go from one night into the next day.

message 63: by Bookishly (new)

Bookishly Pleasant (bookishlypleasant) | 7 comments I recommend Why We Broke Up by Daniel Handler! Even though the MC is reminiscing about past days, the story takes place in one day as she is dropping off a box of their memories.

I would count that, personally. I think it's kind of up to you how want to define 'day' here.

Oh this was one of my possibilities for this year that I didn't get to.

So many books so little time.

I want to be a professional reading challenger. That should be my job.

message 66: by Megan (new)

Megan | 361 comments I just came back from a visit to Omaha beach (the site of D-Day in WW II) and bought a couple of books to read about it.
This one--D-Day, June 6, 1944: The Battle for the Normandy Beaches says it takes place "the night of June 5/6 and ends midnight June 6/7" which is one day.

Majo | 9 comments Chronicle of a Death Foretold by García Marquez is a great one for this prompt. Also a quick read!

message 69: by Jamie (new)

Jamie | 14 comments Does anyone know if Forever Odd takes place in one day? I couldn't tell by the brief summaries I read while trying to avoid plot summaries...

Thanks!

message 70: by Bern (new)

Bern | 1 comments This is where it ends by marieke nijkamp takes place in one day for like 95% of the book. It’s a very good and intense read

Christina (crissytina) | 83 comments Elizabeth wrote: "Does anyone know if The Dinner List is set in one day? I assume it's just over 1 meal but not sure."

From the synopsis and the reviews, it looks like it does take place over the one meal/one evening.

There's a lot to choose from here. Thanks!

Lauren (liveandlauren) Kiss Me in New York is a cute little Christmas read that takes place on Christmas Eve!

message 76: by Sean (new)

Sean (sbowden) | 10 comments If you haven't read it already and enjoy fantasy then The Kingkiller Chronicle (which currently consists of The Name of the Wind and The Wise Man's Fear) would fit for this. I'm guessing the third book won't be released in 2019 but I might hold off on this category just in case...

I read Neverworld Wake this year for a book involving time travel and I don't think I'd count it for this prompt (although it does sound like it works based on the book blurb lol). I think you could probably use it for amateur detective or two word title though.

2019? Have you heard something? I'd love for that to be true but it's been 7 years and counting since book two. I met him at a book signing in September but didn't ask him because I know he's sick of it.

Sarah O'Riordan | travelseatsreads (travelseatsreads) | 25 comments For those who haven't read it please please consider using The 7½ Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle It is such an amazing book, one of my top reads in 2018.

I honestly thought I would have a lot more choice in this one but I think I will go with No Exit as it's already in my tbr list.

Marissa (catladylibrary) | 4 comments I think I might read The Dinner by Herman Koch. It’s been on my TBR list for a couple of years!

I've read it and I would personally count it, it's the same day repeated, like 7 Deaths which has also been suggested here. It's down to personal preference but I don't feel it's too far a stretch.

EDIT: I realise I forgot a whole bunch of stuff that happened, but I'm not a literalist when it comes to prompts so depends of it you're being strict!

Thanks for your suggestion. I've already read a book for this prompt, but I looked up The 7 1/2 Deaths.... book and it looks GOOD! I'm adding to my "Want to Read" list!

message 93: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany Moyer | 4 comments For this prompt, I am finishing up Dan Brown's The Lost Symbol. I've had it on my nightstand for MONTHS! Suspenseful and fairly quick read. There are some flashbacks, but the main story all occurs during one day.

I started reading this book yesterday unsure if it works because of the flashbacks, so really glad you were able to verify! It was so good, I couldn't put it down!!

Michelle (maezyreads) | 32 comments Charlotte wrote: "Emily wrote: "I recommend The 7½ Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle for this one!"

But doesn't it take place over 8 days?"

ONE day but he wakes up that day in a different person's body until he figures out who killed her.
Think Groundhog Day. Same day but he keeps waking up at the beginning of that same day.

Actually, it is not set in one day. First, a glass was sent for chemical analysis— you would not get those results in one day now, certainly not in the year this book was published (1934). Also, there is a funeral and travel after the funeral, so definitely not set in one day. To be honest, I can’t think of a single Agatha Christie that does takes place in one day. Even the short stories I’ve read are set over two or more days. Sorry!
