Highly recommend I'll Be Gone in the Dark: One Woman's Obsessive Search for the Golden State Killer!! You could also use it for a book published posthumously :)

Lorna | 30 comments I'm reading The Empath's Survival Guide by Judith Orloff as I've been meaning to read it since I took it out of the library in early December and now also feels like a good time to do it!

message 53: by Darci (new)

Darci Day | 164 comments I have a long list of books I meant to read last year, so I'm just using the one I couldn't fit into any of the other categories. The Rise and Fall of D.O.D.O.

The Infrequent Reader (theinfrequentreader) | 1 comments I picked The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson for this prompt and I started reading today. I watched the Netflix series and loved it, so I wanted to connect the dots (so to speak). I bought the book last year but decided to try a reading challenge this year, so I waited.

Liz Anderson (lizanderson) | 15 comments Well, I started Educated on December 30th and and am still working on it, so I guess that will work!

message 56: by Laura (new)

Laura (lexeegee) The greater journey by David McCullough. It's been on my shelf for a while.

Kristin (trickpony1820) | 68 comments Bones on Ice (Temperance Brennan, #17.5) by Kathy Reichs - 'Bones on Ice' by Kathy Reichs. I borrowed the eBook from the library over the summer but never read it. Borrowed it again this week when I left my book for work in my car.

Oh My Bookness! Hi everyone! This is the first time I’m doing a reading challenge and I’m quite excited about it! I’m planning to read 40 books this year (as of now.... I might decide to do the advanced set later on)
I chose this prompt to be my 1/40 because my TBR list from 2018 was ever so long.

I have just finished reading “Atlas Shrugged” and I cant say there would’ve been a better book to kick 2019 off with. It’s a book that reminds you of the power of knowledge and inspires you to live and to do everything “Like You Mean It”.

If you can fit this one into any of your other prompts, I strongly recommend this book. It’s a work of art.

Shelley | 231 comments I ended up taking this topic very literally. I had put a hold on A Closed and Common Orbit from the library in November and just got it this week. Definitely had meant to finish it in 2018! I love this series. It's such a great character study with very unique situations.

message 62: by Maartje (new)

Maartje De Groot | 20 comments For this prompt I read Mortal Engines
Loved it. I meant to read it in 2018 because I wanted to go to the movies with my sons. We didn't.

SadieReadsAgain (sadiestartsagain) | 767 comments I read There There by Tommy Orange for this one. My library hold came through for it in December, but I didn't have time to read it.

This book was such a rich experience. I have never read anything from the perspective of Native Americans, and I learned so much from this book. I can see why it has go so much attention, as it strikes me as a really important piece of work. The multiple character perspectives and storylines are all individually strong, and all come together to a devastating climax. Each character is nuanced and believable, and their stories were so captivating that I'd happily read stand-alone novels on any one of them. This is a well paced and cleverly told story, with humour and heartbreak in almost perfect balance. A must-read.

message 64: by Lisette (new)

Lisette Woest-appeldoorn (lizsavage) | 12 comments I really wanted to read 'Een verborgen geschiedenis (A secret history) by Donna Tartt last year.
I found a copy at the give-away-corner of my local library.
My daughter came home with the English edition in October. She wanted to read it for English class.
So I planned to read my Dutch copy as well. Didn't get to it. So my book for this prompt was an easy choice.

I read it (5th -7th january).
Glad I did. Wonderful book.

Courtney Blocher | 64 comments I'm going with Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel. I have been wanting to read this one ever since I heard about it on Anne Bogel's podcast.

message 67: by Samantha (new)

Samantha (bookstasamm) | 182 comments I'm reading Crazy Rich Asians for this one. I wanted to read it last year prior to seeing the movie (which did not happen). I'd like to read his other books this year for different prompts so figured it was perfect for this one!

message 69: by Staczy (new)

Staczy | 6 comments Educated by Tara Westover

message 70: by Tori (new)

Tori (libroperdido) | 41 comments I just finished No Time to Spare by Ursula Le Guin. Loved it. Wish I had read it last year!

message 71: by Sherri (new)

Sherri Harris | 782 comments I recently finished 3 books that work for this prompt. Crazy Rich Asians, There There (had to wait 6 months on the hold list ), Educated (had to wait 6 months on the hold list).

message 72: by Karissa (new)

Karissa For this prompt I am currently reading The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood. I meant to read it before season two came out on Hulu but ran out of time. So I'll finish it before season three comes out this year though I heard the show diverges from the book at the end of season two.

message 73: by Cyndy (last edited Apr 27, 2019 03:00PM) (new)

Cyndy (cyndy-ksreader) | 133 comments I read Enemy of the State by Kyle Mills (Vince Flynn). Kyle Mills did not disappoint any Vince Flynn traditions. A page turner, believable based on current events, and the ending… I can't say anything about the ending other than nail-bitingly scary and spectacular. Highly recommended.

message 74: by Rachel (last edited Jun 13, 2019 10:45AM) (new)

Rachel (wildhoney) | 59 comments I read The Great Believers by Rebecca Makkai for PopSugar's prompt #9, a book you meant to read in 2018. Loved it! Highly recommended.

The Great Believers by Rebecca Makkai

Marcia (aka mpmarquesus) (mpmarquesus) | 1 comments I wanted to read Pachinko for a long time but never got to it last year. I finally read it. One down. Several more to go...
