08 - A book about a hobby

Wild by Cheryl Strayed

Music: The Only Pirate at the Party.
Baking: The City Baker's Guide to Country Living
Travel: Holy Cow: An Indian Adventure
Gardening: a bit of a stretch, but Leota's Garden
The Tea Gardens
Perfume: The Perfumer's Secret
I will probably read a non-fiction book about plants.

Social Media can be a hobby."
That's a hilarious choice - never would have thought of it. I loved the book."
Im crying over here... Got stuck on FaceBook and Instagram last night for 2 hours reading comments about the craziness over here in CT at the malls, and looking at pretty bookstagram pictures...so yea I guess social media can be a hobby ...or a rabbit hole 😂😩

Clever choice for sure and I'm just glad the hobby mentioned is social media and not stalking! ;)

The prompt doesn't specifically say it has to be YOUR hobby so any book relating to a hobby would work.

I have three books about knitting by Debbie Macomber (she has a lot!). I haven't read any of her books, tho. I hope it's a good read.

A Stash of One's Own: Knitters on Loving, Living with, and Letting go of Yarn"
Ooh, this looks interesting. Thanks!
Personally, I'd like to read Alanna Okun's The Curse of the Boyfriend Sweater: Essays on Crafting, I just couldn't get my hands on a copy. Hopefully, next year!

I probably wouldn't consider a cult a hobby, but maybe some aspect that's included could be thought of as a hobby? Like, if they live in a commune that grows their own food, you could count it as a gardening hobby?

What a creative idea, I love it. Now I'm thinking I might just use your idea and go through Jenny Lawson's coloring book, You Are Here: An Owner's Manual for Dangerous Minds.

Here's a recommendation for your hockey hobby!
Fall To Grace by Kerry Casey My real life book club read this book in 2018 - we all loved it. It's one of those books that you find yourself still thinking about months after. Set in MN, the boys that are the main story, play hockey. From different parts of MN they both are the stars of their hockey team. They meet because both lose their fathers to accidents on the same day and we see how they both deal with this loss. This is the first book in a trilogy and appears to be self-published.

It's woodworking.

That's actually classified as nonfiction. Its sort of a memoir.
EDIT: And I sh..."
I don't think the prompt specifies that the book must be fiction, does it?

I read Remarkable Creatures for last year's reading challenge

Thanks for this!! I was just thinking about the Nora Roberts book, The Search, that I just started and was going to post to ask people their thoughts on dog training and search and rescue. Thanks!

I read Summer of Light a few years ago, and I remember photography playing prominently in it.

I came across this one when searching for a book for this prompt, but I haven't read it All Our Waves Are Water: Stumbling Toward Enlightenment and the Perfect Ride

Hello Alison,
It’s an amazing book, but she is cooking for her family, it’s not that much of a hobby, although she obviously enjoys it. Could be a book about a family :).

I read earlier on this forum that "Like Water for Chocolate" has some sort of superpower in it. I plan to read this book this year and find someplace for it to fall.

Thanks. I'll definitely think about that.

How about Turn Right at Machu Picchu: Rediscovering the Lost City One Step at a Time

Lots of books about football around. From the actual game till books about the players.
For this prompt I choose the latter.
I read "Balotelli" by Frank Worral". I kind of wish I didn't. It was of poor quality. All hearsay. Lots of chapters about other players and his trainer (not that I minded, because his trainer Roberto Mancini was my favourite Italian player in the 90s and one chapter was about Eric Cantona, my favourite French player and Manchunian). Poorly written, with a fair amount of factual mistakes.

Tomatoland is great. I read it years ago.
Also recommend: For All the Tea in China: Espionage, Empire and the Secret Formula for the World's Favourite Drink by Sarah Rose. It's amazing! A friend told me the story and I always thought he had exaggerated, but no!
I'll be reading Wicked- also on your list for my 06- Plant on the cover.

It was fascinating!

The kindle version is also a deal today on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Blood-Sweat-Pi...

Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail

I'll probably read a cozy mystery based on a hobby for this one....

Another travel idea: A Fork in the Road
