Book Detectives Unite! (Help finding a certain book...?)

My friend has been looking for a certain book for a long time and can't remember the author or book title. She knows what the book is about and I'd like to find a copy of it for her for Christmas. I am hoping that you lovely book loving people might recognize the premise of it and be able to assist in my Christmas goal <3

The following is her description of what she can remember:
"okay so this girl, whose a half breed keeps getting visited by a ghost whenever she goes near the lake near her home and the ghost is calling out "cold" to her. It turns out he's not calling "cold" he's calling "gold" which is what her name means in her mother's native tongue. The ghost is her uncle who was killed for some racism reason"

Sadly I don't have more to go on than that. Is there any chance someone recognizes it?
