Sarah | 49 comments This is a young adult's book that I think I read in the early 2000s. I can't remember too much about it, but I think the main character is a boy who works or lives near or visits some show/fair-grounds. There's something about cats going missing or being found killed or some kind of mystery about cats. The only thing I can remember very clearly is that the main character or their friend (possibly a dark-skinned girl) over hears another character's father talking about brining the "cat" around, so they suspect him of being involved with the cat mystery. However, it turns out he was referring to a bobcat (machinery) as a "cat".

I can't remember anything else unfortunately, nor can I remember the cover.

I know it's very vague. Any help is appreciated.

Tab (tabbrown) | 5084 comments Sounds like Who Stole Halloween? Who Stole Halloween? by Martha Freeman ; it's part of a series.

If not, do you remember anything about the cover?
Was this more of a mystery, horror, fantasy, etc?

I haven't read it so I have no idea if this is even what you are describing, sorry. I've read other Eric Walters books and remembered the summary of this had something to do with cats. Hope you find the book your looking for though :)
Good luck!!! :)

Sarah | 49 comments Thanks for the suggestions everyone :)
Unfortunately, neither of those seem to be it, but given that there's hardly any information I remember, I really appreciate it.

I think the story was more of a mystery than anything else. Whilst the "cat mystery" played an important role in the plot, I don't think that it was the most important part of the story.

Gabs | 127 comments A cat called Amnesia? It's a bit of a longshot. It is a cat mystery, and there is a scene where they think the man is talking about cats but it is referring to something else. I think they were siblings, though, and I can't remember if a fairground played a part.

Sarah | 49 comments Thanks for the suggestion Gabs :)

Unfortunately that's not it. I should have mentioned that the story is set in the 1990s/2000s, around about the same time I read it.

Kate (katiebobus) | 202 comments Long shot, and it's rabbits, not cats, but Black Rabbit Summer?

message 9: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 49 comments Thanks for the suggestion Kate (sorry about the delayed reply!). Unfortunately that's not it; this was a young adult/teens series, so it wasn't quite as mature as the book you suggested.

Hi Rainbowheart, thanks for the suggestion! It sounds quite familiar, are you able to confirm the spoiler/twist about the cat confusion?

Rainbowheart | 28676 comments Sorry, I haven't read it myself, so I don't know whether it contains that particular scene.
