Nancy Nash Keefer (nink59) Hi all:

In Chapter 22 of "Bones Never Lie," there is the line: “Alex kicked in Babylon but needed to get to Macedonia.” No chuckle. Rule of thumb. If a joke needs explanation, there is no point. I let it go."

Can someone explain the joke to me, please? Thanks!

I would think given the mention of both Babylon and Macedonia, it would have something to do with Alexander the Great.

Alexander the Great died in Babylon, so maybe that's part of the joke "kicked."

Wendy | 581 comments I think I would have to read the entire paragraph to get it. But Nancy, if you did not get it, not many would.

Well, I thank you for your confidence in me, but I was just guessing!!!

Patty | 4493 comments It appears that Alexander the Great’s remains may not have made it all the way back to Macedonia after he died. In 2014, an archaeologist may have found his tomb, but her findings “have been blocked by ‘diplomatic intervention’”.

So the joke may be that he may have died, but nobody knows where he is?
