It is on the Rory Gilmore reading list, meaning it was referenced on the show at one point. I don't know the exact reference though.
I will be reading 'Death of Yesterday' by M.C.Beaton, a Hamish Macbeth story which had had a TV series.

What's the connection with the tv show or film? Keller's autobiography detailing her young life and time with Anne Sullivan is linked to several works of entertainment. Most notably, two plays originally staged in the 1950's and two films. Arguably, the most famous of them all, the 1962 Hollywood film The Miracle Worker, starring Patty Davis and Anne Bancroft, went on to garner wide critical acclaim.

P.D.James had a long running series on TV With her character Adam Dalgliesh. The first book in this series featuring Cordelia Gray was made for a TV drama, but I don't think this book did.

It's just a quick story about one of the side characters. I did enjoy seeing characters interact without the Doctor moving along the plot.

What's the connection with the tv show or film? I enjoyed Homeland and the look at extremist groups, and this sounded like it covered some similar ground.
I had expected a different story from the one I got from this book. Or perhaps, more accurately, the focus of this story was different from what I expected it to be. Yes, this is the story of a love-struck young man watching his girlfriend be drawn into a cult, with horrible consequences. But this book shifts the focus from a dramatic plot point to a deep examination of what draws a person to extremism. Both Will and Phoebe have been drawn into types of religious fanaticism, but whilst it was trauma that drove Will from his convictions, it is trauma which pushes Phoebe into the arms of a cult. And although Will has lost his religious compulsions, he hasn't lost his tendency toward obsession - as Phoebe pulls away from him, he clings all the tighter to her. This story touches on some deep and complex themes, but it never bashes your round the head by soliloquising on them. Kwon's writing is really beautiful, without being floral or detracting from the story - I flew through this book because it unfurled so compellingly. So whilst this wasn't the book I'd expected, I think what I read was so much better.
It was a no brainer for me to use Rory Gilmore as my inspiration! I'm currently reading The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas. It's going to take me a while to finish it, putting me in serious jeopardy of finishing this challenge.
I read The Shiralee by D'Arcy Niland. This is a classic Australian novel which was made into a movie and a tv series, both of which I saw many years ago. Loved it.
I read One Good Turn by Kate Atkinson. It's the sequel to Case Histories, which was made into a TV show. I loved that show, and that's why I started reading Kate Atkinson.
I can't read the book if i have seen the show first. And the book will ALWAYS be better than the show.I am putting Defending Jacob by William Landay in this spot. The book reminded me of Law & Order as it takes place from the time a crime is committed, through the trial, to the verdict. It also reminded me of The Sinner, with all the twists and turns.

I must say that I found it to be a mash-up of several apocalyptic stories that I have read over the years, but I thoroughly enjoyed the manner in which the story unfolded. It held my attention from the first to the last of its 766 pages!
