A. Hall (tenover10) | 8 comments Currently reading The Azazel Syndrome by J.E. Kennedy . Omg! What a wonderful surprise! I don't remember why I added this book to my list but it's definitely a departure of genre for me. Characters are very strong in this and I love it. Even when it switches POV, everybody we meet feels fully fleshed out, realistic and relatable. And it's a compelling post-apocalyptic as well with an intriguing mystery that has me hooked. I did not expect to love this as much as I do.

Also reading Pink by Stephanie Powell . Very interesting. I like the entertaining premise and this author knows what she's doing with characters as well.

Jim | 152 comments Finished Ashes, Ashes, They All Fall Dead (Deadly Games, #3) by Lena Diaz Ashes, Ashes, They All Fall Dead - 3 star, The story was good, but I found the MC's irritating and distracting from the story line

Also read BladeDust Online (BladeDust Online #1) by Corey Thompson BladeDust Online - 2 star, the writing was very simplistic with short sentences with little sub-stance. It followed the adventures of the MC but the actions of other characters that were alluded to but not expanded on seemed to be the more interesting story

The Bookshop on the Corner by Jenny Colgan The Bookshop on the Corner - 4 star, I found this an amusing and endearing story. Very cute and happy, plan to read the next in the series

Bayou Born (Foundling #1) by Hailey Edwards Bayou Born - 4 star, I was a little leery of the story at the beginning but it got better as it went along and it was difficult to put down during the last few chapters. Interesting to see how the next book goes

Now reading Cremains of the Day (A Tallie Graver Mystery #1) by Misty Simon Cremains of the Day

DGC I'm working though the Sookie Stackhouse books currently i'm on the 5th book. I know i'm so late to the party with this one but if anyone is reading these or has read them and wants to talk with me id be extremely happy. My friends don't really read, so i just end up sounding crazy rambling about books they'll never read. Dead as a Doornail

I read those, but it's been a while since I finished them. I liked Quinn and, of course, Eric a lot. And I liked how the books explored the were-panthers more than just making them druggie hillbillies like on the show. Enjoy!

Jim | 152 comments Finished Cremains of the Day (A Tallie Graver Mystery Book 1) by Misty Simon Cremains of the Day - 3 Star, it was a cute tale and enjoyable to read.

Also read The Night Realm (Spell Weaver, #1) by Annette Marie The Night Realm - 3 star, Interesting premise and characters. There was too much action / suspense towards the end with the MC's constantly being captured and escaping. Sometimes Clio's powers were stronger when they needed to be and weaker when the story required without any real consistancy

The Monster Spawn (Adonis Rebirth #1) by Deckhard Davis The Monster Spawn - 4 star, I liked the fact that the MC tried to keep his humanity while trying to use the powers inherent in the monster.

Now reading Return to Dungeon (Kobold's Quest #1) by M.J. Kaltenbrunner Return to Dungeon

message 110: by Jim (new)

Jim | 152 comments Finished Return to Dungeon (Kobold's Quest #1) by M.J. Kaltenbrunner Return to Dungeon - I generously gave this a 3 star, while the story was exciting and the characters were interesting, the editing was horrible and caused issues with the story flow.

Amy*skye.rhyme | 86 comments Unchained (Feathers and Fire, #1) by Shayne Silvers Unchained by Shayne Silvers.
(Feathers and Fire #1)

Since they're on Kindle Unlimited, I just finally decided to read all the Nate Temple books by Shayne Silvers. The original Temple Chronicles is such a popular series (starts with Obsidian Son) but I could never really get interested because it's written ONLY from the male pov. Then I realized the author had a related offshoot series (Feathers and Fire) with a female lead, so I started there instead and really LOVED the world building and everything else about Callie Penrose! I would definitely say that it took Callie's books to trick me into liking the arrogant Nate Temple enough to read the original series but now I find him to be more endearing than annoying and I'm loving the first series too!

So far, my favorites from each are Angel's Roar (Feathers and Fire #4) and Tiny Gods (Temple Chronicles #6) by Shayne Silvers

This is what I'm reading now. It's not what I was expecting. It's very unusual. I was expecting more action and there's very little action and a lot of romance. Not much paranormal.

Skye (skyesie) | 10 comments I’m actually re-reading Kristen Ashley’s “Chaos” series right now, but obviously started it with “Motorcycle Man” which is in the ”Dream Man” series but it’s about Tack, the President of Chaos and Tyra, his “Woman”. I can seriously always re-read Kristen Ashley, she’s a genius, but I do think sometimes all her hero’s sometimes take on the same personalities, at least series wise. Except “Fantasyland,” The heroes were all ALPHA, of course, but they were different personality wise.

Seanan McGuire is the absolute best! Which series are you currently into?

Toby Daye is my very favorite fairy-tale....tale series. Incryptid scratches that itch I get for a funny-monster books and I still need to get caught up on those.

I'm actually currently reading Middlegame by Seanan McGuire , which has some insane and pretty dark concepts. It's a bit dense, but really enjoyable.

Oh, you are very welcome! I think it's easier to see if it's something I can talk about if I can see the cover at a glance. I figure I can't be the only one. :)

I've been looking at that series, too. I'm a sucker for a period-piece anything with serial killers. Then I noticed the other names further in the series. Even though it's not what you expected, would you recommend them?

DGC Well after finishing Furyborn and not wanting to pick up a hard cover edition of Kingsbane while also in a panic because the bookstore was closing i grabbed A Court of Thorns and Roses. I've been thinking about reading it for a while but the mixed reviews made me anxious. So, do I like it, yes. Do I think it could be better, possibly.
I keep finding myself terribly bored then after a chapter i'm sucked back in, then bored again and so on.
If anyone else happens to be reading the series let me know i'm curious to see how others feel about it.

A Court of Thorns and Roses (A Court of Thorns and Roses, #1) by Sarah J. Maas

Just like Maas's other series, the first book is my least favorite and the story actually gets SO much better the further it goes on.

Her characters always end up in a different place (mentally / emotionally) by the end of their journeys,

So if you are on the fence, but still interested, I say give the rest a go. The direction the characters move in after book 1 will probably surprise you.

If, however, you are completely bored to tears and have no interest in what happens next, drop it. Life is short.

Jim | 152 comments Finished The Syn-En Solution The Syn-En Solution(Sys-En,#1) by Linda Andrews - 4 star - Interesting characters and world creation, the story flowed well and the information on the world was filled in without detracting from the story

Also readLost: Saved By Love Lost Saved By Love (Saved By Love #1) by Jodi Kae - 3 star - I didn't believe the reactions of the characters to the situation that was presented, there were numerous intimate encounters which were steamy and well written. (view spoiler) I just was not pulled into the story, to many points that I found to be unbelievable and knocked me out of the story.

I read the whole series about two months ago. I enjoyed the first one but didn't love it.. but I absolutely ADORE the second book. "A Court of Mist and Fury" is amazing and I gave it 5 stars. I immediately reread it after I finished it, that's how good it was. The first and third book are good, but the second is worth reading the whole series for!
