Someone needs to break that four way tie! Of course it's also possible to magic one of the books lower down the list to 18 votes. I could choose one of the books with 17 votes and give it my vote, but I'd rather it come from someone who actually wants to read one of those books with the reread group.Voting will end very early tomorrow, and I'll post the results both here and in the buddy read thread, so we can try and find a schedule that suits most people.
Someone already changed their votes, right now we do have a top 6:Black Company 19

I want to know more about Black company. It is at top. I have never read it. I do like to read sci fi books however.

I just finished voting. I voted for about 27 books, using my usual tactic of voting for all the eligible standalone books I haven’t read yet. Go standalones! :)
I also voted. I have no idea how many I voted for, but this time my criteria was “Already owned” both unread AnD rereads and books I know I can get at the library. I’m trying to read the books I have on my shelves!
There's a certain book I've been voting for every time. As usual, it's just me and maybe one other person who cares about it. It'll have its day in the sun someday...(maybe I'll initiate a buddy read for it at some point?) In the meantime, there's at least one other I voted for that seems to be popular. Fingers crossed!
Voting is open until May 25th.VOTE HERE

I voted for it too. Gawking at the 1000+ pages but I’ve been meaning to try Jacqueline Carey for awhile.
I really want to read that Kushiel series, but I can’t fit it in this year. I tentatively have it planned for 2020 though, so I’ll appreciate the additional discussion in the threads if it gets read this year! I read a short story set in that universe a few months ago and really liked it. I think. Well, I had mixed feelings about it, but it really held my attention.I’m happy to see Embassytown holding out near the top as I voted for it, I own it, and I was planning to read it this year anyway. In the next tier down, I voted for Fuzzy Nation and Seveneves, but I have mixed feelings about Seveneves winning. I own the book, so I need to read it, but I’ve had a lukewarm reaction to the other Stephenson books I’ve read and this one is a bit long. And I have zero DNF skills. So anybody who wants to torture me, vote for Seveneves. :p
Excellent cheer!I voted for Kushiel's Dart because I picked it up as a free e-book a while ago and despite being intimidated by how long it is.
I just checked and it is up to 9 votes.
I don't think anything else I voted for is anywhere near the top right now.
Anna wrote: "Kushiel is now at the top of the list with 9 votes :D"That's the way to go XD. I never heard of this one - and here I thought I went through all the 1000 pagers from the group shelf. Voted for it as well ;).
Anna wrote: "Kushiel is now at the top of the list with 9 votes :D"Is this what it's like to be an "influencer"? :D Seriously, thanks for the votes, everyone.
Gabi wrote: "I never heard of this one - and here I thought I went through all the 1000 pagers from the group shelf...."
It was well-known in its day... which was, admittedly, almost 20 years ago. My hardback is "only" 700-something pages long, not a short read!
Beth, yes! :D And Kushiel is now up to 11 votes, with All the Birds in second place with 9 votes, and everything else with 8 or less.
All the Birds seems preferable to me - I read Kushiel's Dart and didn't like it at all. It seemed to (view spoiler)
If we do wind up reading Kushiel's Dart, I'll probably swap it in as my Book that Intimidates Me for the SFF TBR challenge.
I am new to the group and as much as I would love to read Kushiel’s Dart I had to choose something shorter to read because my monthly plan is long. Will swap some out if it is the winner.Go All the Birds.......!
Welcome, Beth! When the finalists are all up, you should help us figure out the schedule for reading them in the Buddy Read thread! We try to get as many active participants as possible per month :)

Hmm none of mine are in the top 6, maybe I need to compose a rhyme 😳 Probably best notOh well fingers crossed, still time to change
(And now I’ve voted and commented I will receive updates on this thread so will know that none of mine won, woo hoo 😊)
I nearly forgot that I voted for Dune. My other votes are sliding down the list, but it looks like that one has a good chance of winning. I’m long overdue to read it, but I kept putting it off because I didn’t want to fit the whole series into my schedule. People elsewhere have assured me it works well, if not better, as a standalone, so I’ve decided to just treat it that way for now. Then I can stop hanging my head in shame whenever conversations about Dune come up. :)
I highly recommend it as a standalone. None of the other books in the series come up to that level of excellence

CBRetriever wrote: "I highly recommend it as a standalone. None of the other books in the series come up to that level of excellence"Thanks, it’s good to read confirmation of that. The consensus in the other discussions I’ve had has been similar, although a couple people did think some of the sequels were worth reading. And it’s not like I can’t change my mind and try them some years down the road if I have the time and interest; I just have too many other things I'm more interested in reading right now.
I found it difficult to vote, so many of these books I have read and re read. So many good oneshow many people got to the end of the list?
Kateb, I voted for all the ones I’ve previously read (which was the bulk of my votes) or that I already own or know I can get at the library. I’m on a book-buying ban and just want to participate.
Yay! The Black Prism is near the top, the final book in that 5 book trilogy (?) is coming out in October theoretically.
