You can see below for my goals, progress, and plans for how I will tackle these challenges!

Glad to inspire haha! I only have one bookshelf at the moment, so my books are overflowing everywhere... Husband is buying me three bookshelves for Christmas, so I'll finally be able to have an order to everything and I'm hoping it will help with finishing all of these books!

Ann S | 624 comments Geez, Emily, I don't need to go to the library for suggestions for each prompt, I only need to read your list and choose. No No No I need to read off my bookshelf first! Ignore Emily's list.

Edie | 1143 comments You have some great books to choose from. I loved seeing several Sarah Addison Allen books on your list. She is one of the authors that I scramble to get any new book she publishes. I highly recommend Middlesex which I had trouble putting down... all 529 pages of it. I agree with Ann, your planning will help my picking.

Sarah Addison Allen is one of the few authors that I call my favorite. I rarely pay attention to authors, but I just love every book she's written.

Glad I could help with your planning! I overplan at the beginning of the year then ignore my plan for the rest of it, so... it's good that other people are benefitting as well haha!

message 29: by Melanie (new)

Melanie (watermelanie) | 112 comments The Red Tent is one of my favorite novels EVER. It's fantastic. I also enjoyed The Alienist, but I didn't realize until after the fact that I'd listened to an abridged audiobook. But it was still very entertaining (and the narrator was terrific at voices too). Their Eyes Were Watching God and Things Fall Apart are also fantastic. Things Fall Apart in particular was almost shockingly good.

I read Death Comes for the Archbishop in high school, so it's been a while, but I remember I really loved it. I've been meaning to read more of Willa Cather ever since. The Color Purple is another one of my all-time faves. It's one of those books that everyone says that they love so you get to thinking it can't possibly be THAT good... but it is. It's amazing. I really recommend it. It's a little difficult at first, because it's written in vernacular, but once you get the hang of it, it's worth it.

Angie | 65 comments Another Sarah Addison Allen fan here. First Frost is wonderful.

I like a lot of your choices. I've read quite a few of them and have a few on my list, as well. I meant to read The Alienist this year but didn't get to it. So it'll probably be on my list for Book Featuring Historical Figure, too.

Rachelnyc | 943 comments Well, this old lady loves so many books on your list Emily.

Some of my faves are:
The Alienist (I think this qualifies for sense of place as well since the author did an incredible job of making you feel like you were in that time period of NYC)
The Red Tent
The Great Alone
The Poisonwood Bible
Brooklyn
The Bell Jar
A Gentleman in Moscow

You are going to have a great reading year.

Thanks for the heads up about The Alienist! I definitely want to get to it, but I don't own it and those are the books I'm prioritizing... the more prompts I assign it to, the more likely I am to actually read it haha!

Ok I think I'm done with my planning for next year! I have a ton of options for each prompt, and I'm sure I'll be disappointed when I can't get to every single book on my (rather extensive) list.

Mind-boggling. O_O

Edit: Is Feast Your Eyes a book or just a saying? o.O

message 46: by Emily, Conterminous Mod (new)

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) | 11184 comments Mod
The Feast Your Eyes will be where I post all of the covers of the books that I've read this year.

I'm definitely NOT reading 150+ books, but since I'm reading in order, I tried to give myself lots of options. I'm a total mood reader, so I didn't want to tie myself down to one book per prompt.
