Alicia (readersbeadvised) Hello, readathoners! I'm honored to be with you for the first of three hourly posts over the next few hours.

And as the topic alludes, what author would you like to invite to dinner and what questions are you dying to ask? Let's not be picky: they can be dead or alive.

Follow me on Instagram or Twitter

message 2: by Alicia (new)

Alicia (readersbeadvised) And I'll start with my two favorite nonfiction authors: Caitlin Doughty and Mary Roach. I want to ask all sorts of questions but namely where they get their drive and passion to explore the topics that they do?

For Caitlin, how is it different to be a Youtuber versus a published author?

For Mary, is there any topic that you would never research/write about?

Courtney (courtneymichele) | 14 comments I would have neil gaiman come to dinner and tell us a spooky story over four courses!!!

message 4: by Juli (new)

Juli | 87 comments I would love to talk to Patrick Süskind. I want to know how he could think of so many words describing different smells in such detail! Sadly, he is a super recluse and agoraphobic from what I hear.

Perfume: The Story of a Murderer is one of the darkest and best books... yes!

It's probably my favorite book of all time!

message 9: by Amber (new)

Amber | 72 comments I guess my introversion is showing because it sounds like my worst nightmare to sit down one on one for a prolonged period of time with someone I don't know 😂

message 10: by Vicki Willis (new)

Vicki Willis | 510 comments I don't know either. I think I tend to get a bit starstruck so I would probably look like an idiot.
Maybe Michael Connelly or Harlan Coben because I have read all their books.

Rebecka (hoppeduponbooks) | 178 comments Neil Gaiman. There is so much I want to ask him about his books and life in general.

How about an author you'd want to connect with via social media instead?

Maureen (bookwormdownunder) | 8 comments Jenn MCKinlay - How do you write so good?? and yes, I’d say good because her writing makes me feel so inadequate!!! 😛

message 14: by Liz (new)

Liz (lizgotauco) | 38 comments Hmmmmmmmm...

I'd like to have dinner with Elizabeth E. Wein because she wrote my favorite book as a teen and we already have some friendly banter online so I know we can talk to each other lol

I'd ask her about how she went from writing King Arthur books to African fantasies to WWII books, about her piloting hobby, about another world she'd like to tackle in books.

Sarah A (simplerevelry) | 36 comments I would invite V. E./Victoria Schwab because she writes all of my favorite books and she is delightful in person...and I would ask for tidbits from her upcoming books in the ADSOM universe...because I miss my precious characters.

Well stay tuned because one of the upcoming posts has a question related to characters...

Amber, I completely agree with you! I am always flummoxed by people who want VIP tickets to concerts where you meet the band. I can't imagine anything worse! What would I say? What would they think of me! Oh god, the social anxiety! Haha.

I would like to watch an interview of my favourite authors/ celebrities/ etc but never ever meet them in real life.

message 18: by Sammantha (new)

Sammantha (sammylouise) | 26 comments I’d invite Rick Riordan. I think I’d ask him if he was a demigod, who would he want his godly parent to be or who does it think it should be?

I'd invite the Brontes. All three are some of my favourite authors and all led such fascinating lives! I'd love to ask to know more about the made-up worlds they created together and of which not much remains, today.

What a great group of ladies, that would a be a crowd!

message 21: by Irene (new)

Irene (raenne) | 21 comments Colleen Hoover and Hank Green. It'd be so much fun! I don't think they'd get along though...

message 22: by Kate (new)

Kate | 646 comments I think I'd invite Agatha Christie. After reading her Autobiography I think she had a fascinating life. And I'd love to know what she would have made of all the TV and film adaptations of her books.

What did you find out in her autobiography that intrigued you?

It was all her background, the previous jobs she did before writing. Her job in the dispensary working with poisons gave her the idea to write detective stories. Her attendance at her husband's archaeological digs gave her further inspiration.
