message 1: by Liz (new)

Liz (lizgotauco) | 38 comments Hello again!

Like most of you, my readathon will be interspersed with errands. I wondered what types of errands or places do you make sure you bring along something to read? And is there a particular type of reading you find best for on-the-go?

I will be visiting the laundromat -- books required! so no one tries to talk to me. ;-)

message 2: by Susan (new)

Susan | 678 comments I plan on driving my teens around today and will have an audiobook ready to play when they exit the car. Happy laundering today!

message 3: by Maddie (new)

Maddie (maddisonbruce) | 74 comments I normally hang my laundry out while listening to audiobooks!

message 4: by Camilla (new)

Camilla (cyqua) | 65 comments Honestly, I ALWAYS bring something to read almost no matter what I am doing :D

I always have an audiobook or my Kindle with me, but my favourite errand is my big weekly grocery shopping trip where I usually have about 2 hours to just listen to a great book.
Also, if an audiobook is good enough, I will start to do extra cleaning and tidying around the house, just to keep listening :D

message 5: by Amber (new)

Amber (amberinoface) | 7 comments I take a book with me everywhere in my bag. I have a few book sleeve options to keep it safe. I'd rather have a book and not need it than need it and not have it. Plus if I have it, I'm more inclined to read it than fiddle with my phone when I'm stuck waiting somewhere.

message 6: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (flyfarther79) | 5 comments I always have a book even on my phone if I couldn’t take a physical book. I’m not leaving my apt today but will do some chores while listening to an audiobook.

message 7: by Irene (new)

Irene (raenne) | 21 comments I read during commute :) or listen to audio books!

message 8: by Julie (new)

Julie | 147 comments For doctors appointments, blood samples etc. I just bring whatever I'm currently reading

For grocery shopping etc I bring head phones and an audio book :-)

message 9: by Pachy (new)

Pachy Pedia (pachypedia) | 111 comments Like many of you, I play audiobooks while I do housework, it that has been quite a discovery!

message 10: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Woods (nicole_woods65) | 49 comments I usually bring a book when I go on the trolley or bus [to school or to get groceries] to keep myself entertained [and chip away at my massive tbr pile lol]. Sometimes I'll read one during my downtime at College.
I find that it's easiest to read ebooks, since you can have many on hand and the device is light weight. (I still bring a Paperback sometimes, though. I love reading Physical Books.)

message 11: by Saralyn (new)

Saralyn (saralyns) | 7 comments Another audiobook convert here. I ride a motorcycle so, when I'm running errands, I can continuously listen to a book while I'm riding, shopping, walking around - whatever!

message 12: by Nadia (new)

Nadia Batista (booksbynadia) | 86 comments I also use my phone to read, so I always have something to read at my disposal. Waiting for someone? Read a little. Public transportation? Will read the whole journey. Nothing to do? Always read a book. :)

message 13: by Kelly (new)

Kelly (kelhershelves) | 9 comments I only had one errand, a trip to the library, which turned out to be closed because another branch is having some fall festival. So, I didn't get to accomplish that task. But I always have either a physical book with me or one ready on my phone. Audiobooks are also a must for driving, especially during a readathon!

message 14: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 451 comments Like others, I have an audiobook in the car to listen to while I move from place to place either commuting or running errands. I also always have a book on my phone via Overdrive (I am so thankful for this...), so I always have a book with me in case of wait times.

message 15: by Jana (new)

Jana Eichhorn | 299 comments I have a super long commute, and audiobooks are LIFESAVERS. I also have the Kindle app on my phone, so I'm never without something to read whenever I have a few minutes.

message 16: by Denise (new)

Denise | 15 comments I rarely have errands during #Readathon -- I structure my life so that I don't and I generally take a 1/2 day of PTO either before or after #Readathon weekend so that I can get my errands done on those days. If I do have errands, I always have an audiobook on. (Today, I will do a quick pokemon go run and will read the newest Maisie Dobbs book on audio while I go. :-)

Catsbooksandcoffee | 20 comments I always bring a psysical book, but if I had to run an arrand today, I would probably bring an audio book

message 18: by Cora (new)

Cora (corareading) | 128 comments I am going to have to pick my daughter up from gymnastics practice later. It is a 45 minute ride each way, so I will be listening to an audiobook. I already warned her and her friend that they will have to listen too on the ride home.

message 19: by Angie (new)

Angie (pinkindle) | 17 comments I almost never bring a book along on errands, since I mostly go with my mom. But if I'm alone, taking the bus then I make sure to have a book with me. Whatever I'm in the mood for is fine.

message 20: by Dallas (new)

Dallas (silvernarnia) | 13 comments I don't have any specific errands at the moment, but I have some housework I need to do. I have Wink Poppy Midnight ready to go on audio for that time!

message 21: by Misty (new)

Misty | 9 comments I always have a physical book with me. I never know when I'll have the opportunity to sneak in a few pages while doing errands.

message 22: by Elsi (new)

Elsi (elsielsi) | 110 comments Whether it's a physical one or on my phone, books are always with me. I like to read during breaks at school and listen to audiobooks when I cook. I have planned today in a way I won't have much errands, so no need to worry.

message 23: by Melissa (new)

Melissa (mahart) | 12 comments I always have a print book with me and a bunch on the Kindle app on my phone. I’ve got a long commute split between the bus and the train, and I can only read a little on my phone on the bus portion, so I need options.

For the readathon, I’ve got four short print books with me and everything that’s on my Kindle, and I’m at my second of four reading stops today already!

message 24: by Susy (new)

Susy (susysstories) | 2288 comments Well, if necessary I always have ebooks and audiobooks on my iPhone, but this readathon there will be no errands, only the readathon (and some sleep).

message 25: by Mika (new)

Mika | 41 comments I always bring my kindle with me to college, so I can read on the 20 min bus ride and during breaks!
I don't have any errands today though. :)

message 26: by Andrea (new)

Andrea | 43 comments I listen to books when working outside.

message 27: by M.V. (new)

M.V. | 17 comments I'm going for a walk with my dog soon, and I'll finish the current audiobook while we're at it. Planning to take one of the physical books down to the beach tomorrow morning to have fulfilled the read in 3 spots properly.

Of course I have the kindle app on my phone as well, I can't bear to ever be without something to read. My paperwhite sometimes gets forlorn in my bed when I leave the house.

message 28: by Jamie (new)

Jamie | 412 comments I almost always have a book ready. Especially work (sometimes an audiobook for travel) breaks and lunch. Doctor/Dentist appts for those waits are the most common to be pulled out. The only out I have planned for today though is a walk to and around the park later this evening. Good for me and my dog both. Will likely have to download an audiobook for that too.

message 29: by Theresa (new)

Theresa Cranmer | 15 comments The kindle app on my phone is a must have! Perfect for waiting in line or at an appointment.

message 30: by Sammantha (new)

Sammantha (sammylouise) | 26 comments I won’t be going anywhere since I’m pretty sure I have a cold. Uggh!

message 31: by Brooke (new)

Brooke | 7 comments I always have my iPad with me, which has no fewer than 6 reading apps on it. Always be prepared.

message 32: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (racheliswriting) | 7 comments Audiobooks while I walk or while I do chores have turned those into enjoyable experiences. Also my boyfriend and I regularly bring our books to restaurants and read while we eat dinner together!

message 33: by Angie (new)

Angie | 169 comments Hi Liz,

Funny, I just came back home from the laundromat ;-) Of course I had a book with me (on my Kindle). I often take books with me (digital or physical), when I know I have periods of waiting around inbetween errands or appointments. Since I also spent a lot of time on public transport, I usually take that as an opportunity to squeeze in some reading as well. Personally, I prefer reading to audiobooks, just because I like to hear what's going on around me and don't like to be "walled off" behind earphones in public spaces. (if that makes sense...)
Usually, I just bring whatever book I'm reading at the moment, no special on-the- go-book.

message 34: by Susan (new)

Susan | 986 comments I'm going to run to grocery store later. I'll probably take the time to think about what I've read so far instead of reading more. But an audiobook is great for me while doing chores at home.

message 35: by Vicki Willis (new)

Vicki Willis | 510 comments I like to bring up a book on my phone when I am getting pedicure or when I waiting at the doctor's office. I don't really use audible for errands, Just the gym and walking the dogs.

message 36: by Shelley (new)

Shelley | 123 comments I have a physical book, my kindle, my kindle app on my iphone, an external battery, and cords from that to both my kindle and my iphone. I live in NYC and sometimes will spend 12 hours at a time away from my apartment with no way to charge. My biggest fear is being stuck in the subway with nothing to read. I'd call it paranoia, but if it has happened before, does that still count?

message 37: by Dannii (new)

Dannii Elle (danniiellereads) | 350 comments I've been on two puppy walks today. I brought my audio for the first but the second was more for us both to get fresh air so I didn't listen to anything.

I make sure I bring my kindle everywhere I go though, just in case I get a few spare minutes here or there.

message 38: by [deleted user] (new)

I usually bring the ebook with me. I have college practice in the morning and work in the afternoon... and a lot of time of waiting for the bus.

message 39: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca (rebecca77) | 9 comments laundry, house-cleaning and maybe a little grocery shopping, all with an audiobook on.

message 40: by Liora (new)

Liora (chinquapin) | 40 comments Audiobooks mostly, so I can listen while driving around and stuck in heavy traffic.

message 41: by Kate (new)

Kate (kathrynlouwca) I made sure to do all my household chores over the course of the week so that my day is dedicated to the readathon. I do need to do my weekly planner spread for next week and so I'll listen to an audiobook while doing that. I also make a field trip to go get coffee in a little bit and I will bring a book for that. :)

message 42: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 89 comments I always bring my Kindle with me wherever I go. I also do a lot of driving for work, so I listen to audiobooks frequently.

message 43: by Kristen (new)

Kristen Harvey | 9 comments I am getting a haircut/highlights today, so I'll be listening to an audiobook in the car and then bringing a book to read while the dye sets in. We may go to the dog park today too so I'll bring my headphones and audiobook along if we do or at least on walks with the dogs later.

message 44: by Elyse (new)

Elyse (winesaboutbooks) | 2454 comments In general, I have the Kindle app on my phone plus Overdrive and Libby and Bluefire Reader, all my reading apps. And I have Audible too so I listen to my audiobook in the car and while grocery shopping plus while cooking and doing housework and then have my reading apps for when I'm waiting for an appointment or breaks/lunch at work. :)

message 45: by Méliane (new)

Méliane (meliane) | 31 comments I always have my phone and headphones with me so i usually pick up an audioboook but if im waiting for someone i pick up a physical book.

message 46: by Jerricka (new)

Jerricka Habib I always have a physical book on me and my Nook app is loaded with about 100 books so I've always got something. I'm going to tidy up my room while listening to audio-books and I also plan to work on my Halloween costume.

message 47: by Carmen (new)

Carmen (TheReadingTrashQueen) (thereadingtrashqueen) | 12 comments I kept the entire 24 hours free of errands and we had food delivered, so I can read the entire time- save for when I’m on social media, though that is also all readathon related.

We’re about to go out for the 30 minutes of moving around the BINGO requires but it’s dark out so I can’t read and I don’t think an audiobook would stick in my brain if I’m focused on something else haha!

message 48: by Carmen (new)

Carmen (TheReadingTrashQueen) (thereadingtrashqueen) | 12 comments Oh but I should mention that I always carry a book with me everywhere I go heh

message 49: by Book Bunny (new)

Book Bunny | 10 comments I'm super lucky because the only thing I have to do during this readathon is to take my dog out for a walk. But whenever I'm out and about I'm usually listening to an audiobook ^^

message 50: by Amy (new)

Amy | 187 comments I listen to an audiobook when I'm doing errands. I have only one quick one today, which I'm excited about, but it will help me complete Bingo!
