SOLVED: Children's/YA > Children's book: boy with large, scruffy dog (pretty sure it's a wolfhound) that he uses for hunting. I read it about 25-30 years ago. /s

Meg | 25 comments I can't remember much about it, but it was a lovely story I'd like to introduce my friends' kids to. I think it was set somewhere in rural in America, probably early 1900s. It was probably a Scholastic book. I think the title may have been the dog's name. I'm sure the dog was an Irish Wolfhound, although it takes a while for folks to identify his breed. Everyone in town us impressed with the dog's hunting skills. The dog ends up coursing after a fox that the locals have been hunting for ages. I think the boy lived with an uncle or grandfather?

I've googled it and it isn't Finn the Wolfhound.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Diana Welsch | 530 comments There's a list here of books about Irish Wolfhounds. There's an out-of-print one called Henry that I can't find out anything about, maybe it's that one.

Diana Welsch | 530 comments Here is another list that's more extensive (pdf warning!). Unfortunately I can't find out much about any of those books, but maybe if a title rings a bell, you can check eBay?

Meg | 25 comments Thanks Diane! While trying to find info about the book called Henry on your list, I came across "Bristle Face" by Zachary Ball, which is the book I was trying to remember.

As a bonus your other list helped me track down another childhood favourite - "My Wolf, My Friend" by Barbara Corcoran.

My old kids books were all lost when my parents divorced so I'm thrilled to have tracked down these titles. Thanks so much for your help!!

Meg | 25 comments I can't work out how to move this to the Solved section - I may have to try when I'm on a computer rather than using the iPhone app.

Meg--the reason you can't figure out how to do it is--you can't do it from the apps. Have to be on a computer (which is poor coding on Someones part.) I've taken care of it for you.
