ANNOUNCEMENT: Fix to Add a New Edition
Okay, editing characters, series, locations, and original work metadata should be available again on the book edit page when editing an existing book. Those fields will not appear when creating a new edition of an existing work. If you want to edit characters, series, et cetera, you'll have to create the new edition first, then edit the book again.
I hope that makes sense. Please post here if you see any problems.
William, are you saying that those fields will not appear when creating the new edition, but that they will automatically migrate to the new edition? You're not saying that they will not exist in the new edition, correct?
Thank you - and thank you for the broadcast PM because this is indeed important and I would not have seen it otherwise.

You are all amazing! Gracias for this fix!
I was just noticing this as I added two new (old) editions of a book, and it seemed to work entirely as intended. Thank you for the fix!
This should save a lot of time for librarians. And I also add my thanks for the broadcast message.
Excellente--wonderful news! Noticed this earlier but thought I already forgot that I did immediate combine. *sighs @ memory leaks*
This will make continuing to add my personal library go so much faster and more smoothly. I really appreciate the work that's been done to make this work.
Hello! I've got a question. My new poetry collection GRAVITY is not exactly a new edition of a previously published chapbook but a full-length poetry collection with an entirely new cover, new publisher, etc. How can I make that distinction clear when adding it? Thanks.

Does this mean no more duplicates on the bookshelf?
Great News! Also thanks for the broadcast PM, I appreciate the bringing my attention to something I may have otherwise missed. :)

Thanks, I'm new to librarianship and GR authorship too (only a week as both). Does this relate to when I go to add my forthcoming paperback edition of what is currently eBook only? Thanks for your patience, I'm still learning.
Excellent news, as it saves one of the fiddliest bits of adding extra editions, and hopefully it will reduce the number of separate listings which often come up for the same book.

Today we're releasing a fix for add a new edition (hooray!). When you click the "add a new edition" button from a book page, it will actually create a new edition of the book - not a new work. The new edition will be automatically combined and you won't have to do that manually.
In order to release this, we have temporarily removed work-level data from the edit book page. This includes characters, series, location, and original work metadata. We expect this to come back this afternoon, ASAP, and a staff member will post again here when it does.
We appreciate your patience, and I really hope that you all like the change!
