Megan Pleasant | 18 comments I don't remember much about this one. I think the plot had something to do with one of the boys taking care of his elderly grandmother, whom he was living with. People started to realize that the boy (Nate? Ned?) couldn't handle caring for her on his own. I think they were going to put his grandmother in a home and he would have to move away. His best friend didn't want him to move away, and at one point ending up hiding him in his handicapped neighbor's house.

I read it around 2008 but I think it was published in the 80s or 90s. The cover was purple and white and pictured the two boys talking to each other on the telephone.

Megan, can you tell us more about the main boy - his age, why does he have to care for his grandmother, where is his grandfather, his parents' jobs, any siblings/pets, his skills/hobbies/interests, personality, etc.?

What's the location - country, region, big city/small town?

Megan Pleasant | 18 comments I don't remember much about the main boy. He was not the one taking care of his grandmother--that was his friend. The grandfather had died, I think, as the grandmother lived alone aside from her grandson. She could not get out of bed on her own and required help from him constantly. As far as I remember the main boy did not have any siblings. I remember him having a mother but I don't know about a father. I think the story took place in a regular town. I imagine the ages of the characters were late elementary school or early middle school.
