Published in 1950s or 1960s. My memory (may be faulty) is that there were several books in the series. Children are sent to old relatives mansion in English countryside. Odd/ghostly things ensue. Pictures on the wall lead them into the past.

Thanks Kris. I read some reviews and it sounds close to my memory but not quite right. But I read those books many years ago so there's a good chance my memory is hazy. As to cover art, lol, don't recall any art.
Hello, I'm not sure who is responsible for deeming a request solved, but I think Rosa correctly identified the series as The Green Knowe series. I've read one and have requested four others from my county library system. It was wonderful to revisit a much loved book. Carol
