there are monsters that live in the cairns, I remember a character named svensson, and there are some small villages in this valley, and they fight, I think they're fighting because some believe that the monsters are there and some don't, but that might be wrong. I read this once like 10 years ago. It seems like a fictional nordic country, probably takes place in sometime like the middle ages or a bit earlier
