For what it's worth, I didn't care for it, either. The crew is a psychological mess, and I wasn't interested in their problems. The "alien artifact entering solar system and people get sent to investigate" plot didn't add anything new to the trope. Have not figured out what the fans see in it.

Since I've been reading a Vampire Chronicles book for Halloween for many years now, and since Rice was kind enough to provide me with yet another one just in time for this year, I've started reading Blood Communion by Anne Rice. The plots are usually absurd but I still enjoy my yearly return to Lestat et all.

Wow, there are more Lestat novels? my last Vampire Chronicle novel was Blood and Gold. Did not care much about the witches so I stopped when she mixed them with the vampires.

You're right. Apparently it has a huge fandom in Reddit. I am considering whether I should read his other novels like Starfish or The Freeze-Frame Revolution since his narrative style confuses me.

I got halfway through this & never really got into it. I found something else that I wanted to read quickly for a group & just never felt like picking this back up. It was intricate, yet pointless, so I quit.

That was my favorite book in that series. I wonder if he has any plans to ever complete the seventh and final book.

Song For Quiet i rated 4.5/5 or 5/5 stars. Was even better than the first book. Cassandra Khaw is another ridiculously skilled writer. I often make note of pages in books I want to come back to and with this one I might as well have made note to reread the whole thing. Really ended with a bang too
Anyway now finished my planned Halloween horror reading minus one book that never arrived so moving into my back ups to finish up October. Just started Rosemary's Baby

Thank goodness my next book was Huntress, straight up high fantasy/epic quest with interesting worldbuilding and characters. Just what I needed!
Unfortunately my current book Rift Breaker is not turning out so well - Clunk, clunk, clunk...

I agree. I gave

November is a pretty full month too, if I get Ball Lightning from the library I'll have about 8-9 books to read.
Was debating what to read next since I've got several to pick from, decided to go with The Iron Dragon's Daughter by Michael Swanwick, this will be the last series I start this year (it's a duology). It might fill in my Dystopia spot in my bingo card.

Finished Moving Pictures which is one of the weakest Discworld books I read. I have one Industrial Revolution book left to go.
Currently immersing myself into the dragon-blood corporate world in The Empire of Ashes. I hope this last book is not as bad as Ryan's previous trilogy's finale.
