The Lesser Dead - beginning 11/12/18
Latasha wrote: "hi! are you going to stop when he gives his warning? as of right now, I am."No, I don't think so? I still don't understand why he warns against finishing his own book lol. As of right now I plan on reading the whole thing!
Alright. I would have preferred to not have been told this at all tbh, I like to go into books not knowing much about what happens.
I found my copy of the book. 😁I might start tonight. I finished my latest book yesterday.
So any particular reading guidelines or just post where we are with comments inside spoiler tags?
Latasha wrote: "That’s what I was going to do Nancy."Ok, I just wanted to double check in case there was a schedule.
Graeme wrote: "Sheesh - there are a lot of good books being read this month...(Sigh!)."I know!
I keep making changes to my October reading list.
I remember this book really well - which is a real tell I think of its basic power. I'll keep an eye on this thread as I'm sure everyone's comments will be interesting.
Latasha wrote: "Those across the river is my #1 favorite audiobook!"I have a paper copy but haven’t read it yet.
I started the book on my commute this morning! Love reading about dirty, 1978 NYC and the subway while being in the subway lmao.
This one is KILLER, especially on audio, narrated by the author. He is something of a performer from what I've read-a "professional insultor" at renaissance fairs and such. From Wiki:
"Buehlman has several characters which he plays in taverns, clubs, and renaissance festivals across the United States. They include Christophe the Insultor, a verbal mercenary people may hire to insult their friends, and Churchyard O'Shea, Irish storyteller."
In my experience usually authors aren't that great at narrating their own stuff, but Buehlman NAILED this performance, IMO.
I hope you guys enjoy this one as much as I did! Say hello to Joey Peacock for me. :)
Nancy wrote: "I started last night. I tried to read slow, LOL."Lol. The story is so fast-paced.
Only got to page 37, but (view spoiler)

I like the main character as well. (view spoiler)

Is there a sample of the audio?
Lena wrote: "https://www.audible.com/search?keywor..."I realized after I posted to try Amazon. I just listened to the sample. I was basically reading it the same way. I like when a writer can do that with his writing (when you can pick up the cadence and the way a character talks by the how they write.) Instead of everyone sounding the same in my head.

re: your spoiler, lol! me too!
I finished part 1 last night and just started part 2. This brought back memories...Bad Bad Leroy Brown...I was in the end of 7th and beginning of 8th grade in 1978. The music teacher used to make us sing that sing.
That's so cool that you have a connection to the book in that way!I'm super excited to get off work and read on the train after I go to the gym. I read a little more during my lunch break but I'll come back to the thread later after I get more done :)

You’re riding on the train while reading this? That could be creepy.
Ok, this might seem like a strange comparison but the way Joey keeps going on tangents when he talks remind me of Holden Caulfield in The Catcher in the Rye. But Joey is more likable. LOLOLOL

I switched to a different book today that I'm also buddy reading, but last night I stopped at page 92 (so I started part 2).(view spoiler)
Lol I’m glad that didn’t grab you Rachel. If I can’t climb under my house, I doubt I could go down there to try to find you. 😝

I started part 4 last night. I didn’t want to stop reading but it was getting late.I am enjoying this book.
