Eustacia Tan | 19 comments I read this in 2005, though it was a library book and pretty yellow so it might have been older. It involves a boy and his family moving to a new house (or perhaps it was a summer house). There's a mystery involving a book of Edgar Allan Poe stories. What I remember is that the solution to the mystery involves The Cask of Amontillado, where someone or something is bricked into the wall. And something might have been in the book of Poe stories.

This scared me, but then again it might be more mystery than horror. Any help would be appreciated - I searched for Poe inspired stories but couldn't find anything.

Eustacia, any chance the main character is a girl (e.g., The Haunting by Joan Lowery Nixon - there are different cover images)?

House of Dark Shadows by Robert Liparulo turned up while search, but it might be a bit too recent.

Hi Kris! The Haunting sounds very very close to what I read! I'll definitely have to look deeper into that - I could have misremembered the protagonist!

Thanks for the preview! It isn't exactly how I remembered it, but one paragraph rings a bell, so I guess my memory was faulty! Thanks so much!!

Great. Glad you found your book, Eustacia. Yes, our memories work in mysterious ways.
