Check out the description of the series. It can be read in either publication order or chronological order. For Love of Mother-Not is first in chronological order, but fifth in publication order.

I am just starting to read the Pip and Flinx books by Alan Dean Foster, beginning with "For Love of Mother Not." However, to my surprise, "For Love of Mother Not" is listed as book 5 in the series although it seems to me to be the first story about Pip and Flinx - in fact, Flinx finds Pip in this book. Has anyone else read this series? I don't want to make any corrections to the book order if there is an explanation for the existing order.
